Top priority for the 2008 draft

The team needs another consisent threat at defensive end and even though I know it's not gonna happen but I'm hoping for Chris Long. I also really hope they consider drafting a tall yet still somewhat speedy reciever to be a go across the middle and pick up a first down type of reciever. not to mention that would also possibly provide Campbell with another dangerous red zone target. they also might need to find another potential kickoff/punt returner.

This is who I'd like top see the Redskins take if he falls to them (supposedly many think he will be the next Ed "Too Tall" Jones and he is a beast):

DE | Miami (FL) | Scouting Report Many felt the Redskins would look to address their defensive line with the #6 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft and while you certainly can't criticize their selection of LaRon Landry from a value standpoint the fact remains that they still need an impact guy up front, whether it be at end or tackle. Andre Carter is solid on one side but Phillip Daniels is nearing the end of his career and their depth is lackluster at best. A huge (6-8, 280) pass rusher who can also hold his own versus the run, Campbell has 38.5 TFL and 19 sacks in just 3 seasons and he has the talent to be chosen much earlier.

i still say corner in the first round....every other position has players who will be available later....i think our oline without injury is damn good, so bring in a young guy in the 3rd - 5th round let him learn the guard position, bam oline addressed. but the first round belongs to a corner. there is a lot of depth at wr, a guy like hardy out of indiana would be great in the second round. the only two other scenerios i think make sense, is some how trading up to snag chris long because he is the best player in this draft. the other is trading down, but staying in the first round, and adding a second rounder and/or third rounder. i just dont think dline has to be addressed through the draft unless its chris long. the best place to address it "this year" is in free agency.

My Skins priorities in order:
1. Defensive End (Daniels still serviceable, but we need a younger DE to groom.)
2.O-line Depth (I think we have the starters in place, and 2 nice backups with Fabini and Heyer, but we need some youngblood to take over for our aging starters.)
3.CB (This could drop a few places if we can retain Springs, and Rogers is healthy, but right now this position is a concern.)
4.WR (I would like to add a playmaker here to form a formidable WR trio with Moss, and Randle El.)
5.Safety (I'm not sold on Reed Doughty as a starter.)
6.OLB (Need to add some depth at this position, and some insurance in case Rocky is not fully healthy.)
7.DT (If we can retain Griffin we're fine here, but if not we're going to need to add somebody.)

I'm going to leave it at defensive line help. The need on the DL is not to fill one position that is a problem, but rather to add a GREAT defensive player on the line who can both rush the passer and disrupt running plays. We don't exactly have a player on the line who is a drain on the team, but we lack depth and top end talent, so using a pick there is absolutely critical. We need the help at DT just as bad as we need it at DE, but if we can get help at one place, we can address the other position in the future.

Should have used a pick there this past year, but the events of this season have pretty much justified the Landry pick. Now we just have to make up for lost time.

I betcha Miami and Parcells won't keep the 1st pick. They need too much help. Not advocating this, but do you think Snyder would think about jumping up to take it? Dorsey or Long is a big need. Hmmmmm. Interesting... I wouldn't be shocked.

Gtripp - this is exactly what the Skins need and I am hoping that Calais Campbell of Miami falls to us in the first round. Campbell is 6'7" and 280 lbs and runs a 4.8 40. His stats are amazing for the 3 years he has been at the U of Miami and like I said before this guy reminds a lot of pro scouts of the next Ed "Too Tall" Jones. Plus I am sure he would fit right in with other fellow Miami alums on the team.

I think everyone is tending to forget that Philip Daniels is 34 years old which for a DE is not good. Daniels was descent against the run but as far as qb pressure goes he is not good. I can't remember how many times I would count how much time opposing qb's got due to a lack of pressure from Daniels.

At this point it's hard to gauge what the Skins need because it's hard to tell who is still going to be with the team. As of now DE, CB, G, T, LB, S, WR are all needs. Priority of needs all depends on if the skins can pull another rabbit out of the salary cap. Spings, Griffin, Washington, Portis, Daniels, injury prone Janson, and the useless one- Lloyd, all have big cap numbers. Hopefully I'm wrong, but when we get rid of Lloyd it's gonna hurt. And unless we are able to renegotiate some contracts I can see Springs, Griffin, Daniels, and or Portis released as well. For example, if Springs is released- CB becomes top priority. If Griffin is gone, DT etc... Because of Lloyd's cap hit, I don't see us very active in FA. SO, I guess I'm saying as of now DE looks like the biggest need and WR next, but until the cap gets sorted- who knows?

And, one more thing... Can anyone tell me why the skins are picking 21 instead of 20? Lost to TB head to head- Why is the rules for a draft order tie breaker different than the rules for a playoff tie breaker? Any insight?

I think we have a resounding "line" result. either defensive or offensive. they both need to be addressed. The offensive line pickup will liekly not start at first, but honestly, the defensive pickup if drafted in the 1st three rounds could start early next year.
