On a side note, SS mentioned how lucky we were that high-caliber players like D.Hall and Dock were both cut... Well, check out how Dockery became a free agent: From Redskins Insider: How Dockery came to it the free-agent market is a bit odd. Buffalo and Detroit had agreed to a trade Thursday with Detroit willing to pick up the rest of Dockery's 7-year, $49 million contract and to guarantee the 2009 and 2010 portions of that deal. However, the Bills failed to file the necessary paperwork with the NFL Management Council by the 4 p.m. dealine, according to a league source, and, rather than pay Dockery $4.5 million for this year, the Bills allowed him to become a free agent. The Lions were still willing to pick up the remainder of the deal with the two guaranteed years and Dockery, who spent today in Detroit, was close to accepting their deal. However, tonight he decided to take the Skins' deal, which will pay im $3.5 million less over the duraton of the deal. Talk about lucky!

We've had big money guys (who seemed like solid signings at the time) flop in the past, so for that reason our FO hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt with me. I will however give them credit thus far for realizing our glaring needs (O/D-line) and singing a few of the best players out there to fill the gaps.

Re: Dockery coming back to Redskins
I understand that. But in the past we've spent gillions of dollars on players the front office deemed fit to give us the best chance to win and they weren't even close, despite offseason speculation that we had done a good job in FA. Therefore I reserve judgement for the most part.

Re: Dockery coming back to Redskins
This one was a no-brainer, which, in a way, is what's most encouraging. Our FO tends not to do the obvious right moves. Now Haynesworth is what it is: it could be huge, but if it fails, it will be a big albatross around Danny and Vinny's necks.
As for "slurping the FO"--yeah, we do win the offseason pretty regularly. So cautious optimism/reflective realism is the right policy. It's about wins, not stats and contracts. Full stop. And you can't win games in the offseason, sadly. But the Danny does make Feb/March more interesting!

Re: Dockery coming back to Redskins
Love this move, welcome back Dockery! As soon as I saw him cut on Wednesday, I wanted him back in Burgundy and Gold.... I think we got him back for a very reasonable price, and its a definite upgrade to the offensive line.... we can now shift the focus to tackle.... I think Rabach can hold his own, and we can hope C. Reinhardt steps in for Thomas in the next few seasons... the glaring position is right tackle now... we still dont know what we really have in Heyer...but we need to upgrade Jansen. I love the guy and hate to say it, but he just can't get it done anymore.
Love this move though!

Re: Dockery coming back to Redskins
In my opinion this is the best move they made by far. Getting him at below the rate that Detroit offered makes it the perfect move.
Dockery adds size, youth, knowledge of the playbook and brings back a guy that we drafted. Great move by the FO. |
