Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
I thought that Ganther looked reasonably good against Denver and I hope that he gets more playing time.

Check out the article posted in the WP. You get the impression that Sherm Lewis would rather keep Betts in?

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
I say you still give Portis a chance, but one
either he figures out how to hit the holes and extend the runs.. or Betts is the feature |

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
Well after watching Betts, Rock and Ganther take reps, I wouldn't be sad to see Portis go...

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
It's sad we've reached a point where the pass pro JC received today is considered to be part of the solution, but actually, I agree with the sentiment. He was protected well enough to have performed better than he did today.

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
I still think that it is some part Portis though. He had some holes this year and he doesn't attack the line of scrimage anymore. He is uninspired. Where as today we got see a few guys on our team attack the line of scrimmage. Betts did an excellent job of finding and hitting holes hard. He didn't always go down on first contact and the same goes for Rock he has ran the ball very well and HARD when he gets his chances.
Maybe he gets a couple of weeks off and watches other RBs run hard he will want to come out and try to show them up which could be a very good thing. OR just getting Portis into the rotation and have more of a runnig back by commitee scheme.

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
Portis better not see the field the rest of the year. He is our 3rd best RB at this point.
Betts and Cartwright are WAY WAY WAY better. |

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
Betts has proven over and over again things to this team. Yesterday was just one more thing. I dont see why people can't realize that he is better than Portis at this point. He's just never had the opportunity.
CP should not play again this year. 3-6 means you can play other players and RB is definatley one position that needs change. Yesterday proved that we can win without Portis. Betts ran for 114 yards on his first start. And Portis ran for 100 yard just ONCE in 8 games....that tells you alot, or it should.

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
Not defending CP but you have to admit that the OLine was actually pushing ppl out of the way yesterday. which has not been seen much this season.

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
I think this conversation needs to start by talking about the OL. They did a great job (finally) and dominated the LOS all day. That's where an effective running game starts and ends, it's all up front. That said I do like how Betts attacks the LOS. He's much quicker and decisive. He takes the ball and just goes. I like the way he finishes his runs too, always falling forward fighting for more. At this point Betts has a lot less mileage on him than Portis and is much healthier.

Re: Portis is a BIG problem!!!
The oline did play well, but I don't think that was the difference...we had a LT who hadn't played in years and a new guard going against a very good defense. The difference was Ladell. He got the yards CP doesn't get because of his lack of vision. Betts is the difference (and Rock).

portis doesnt get the help from the offensive line that betts got.....he doesnt get the same defensive looks when he is in the game some of you guys are no better than your teams owner.....you are completely blinded by the fact that your team is struggling this year.....clinton portis is easily your best player.....easily a top 5 running back in the league on a bottom 5 team in the league......you guys make me laugh |

2) as for your Portis point, you continue to completely ignore all evidence that contradicts your assertion. Such unintelligent thinking makes me laugh...

there is always an exception to the rule but the rule is a rule for a reason.....portis is still a top 5 back despite being injured and playing behind a terrible line, and terrible team |
