Do I? or will our QB be good enough to do that?

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List
Who is "our QB"?
Can John Beck make those guys into an elite WR corps? Personally, I do not think so... Can Rex Grossman? I do not think so ... Can Caleb Haine? No. Can Drew Brees or a healthy Peyton Manning? You bet your butt. Kyle Orton? Quite possibly. Chad Henne? Possibly. Until I know who "our QB" is going to be, I cannot answer your question.

As mentioned earlier in thread, I would not overdo FA. Stay committed to the draft, and sign two, maybe three, FAs. My preference would be a QB and WR; Flynn (or Hoyer) and Colston sounds good to me. If we go for a third, then I would start looking at DB/S or the offensive line. I recall that late in the season, we almost ran out of bodies to play on the OL. Not keeping enough O-linemen may have been Shanahan's biggest mistake of 2011. Signing a FA QB is most important to me for 2012, because I still dont like the idea of giving up a bunch of picks to trade up. I would actually favor a trade down and take Tannehill with our QB pick.

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List
Speaking of FAs, anyone know of any good safeties hitting free agency? People talk about the doom and gloom of the CB position, but I think we are pretty effed up at safety. Landry prob won't be back (and we probably wouldn't want him back with his busted achilles), Atogwe has not worked out much, and after that who do we have? Gomes? That's pretty much it I think.

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List
Good find...
Dashon Goldson Scouting Report - Scouts, Inc. Grade: 78 | Key Comment: Goldson is a good sized safety that the 49rs drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 draft and has worked his way up to a starting role over the past two seasons. In 2010 he played in and started all 16 games and finished the season with 80 total tackles, second highest on the team, along with a single QB sack and an interception. He has good speed, quickness and agility for the position and is a good open field tackler that allows him to play the last man on defense in their scheme effectively. He shows good route recognition and can read the quarterback's eyes from off coverage but is not a natural ball hawk and can be a bit inconsistent playing the ball when in position. He can open his hips to turn and run or plant and drive on the ball when transitioning out of his back pedal.

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List
Goldson is undeniably one of the more physically gifted safeties in the league but I think he was the very worst starter on the 49ers this year. He was the weakest link. Not deserving of his pro bowl nomination (though not as egregious a pick as Antrel Rolle in 2010). He's out of position way too often, and tackles like Landry on LSD.
I still think Tyvon Branch is the best with Landry as a very close second. After that, the class is kind of weak. Leonhard is a system guy. To me, the best possible signing for the Redskins would be Tanard Jackson. And he comes with more risk to the team than Landry does for sure. Which is why I would just keep Landry. Safeties Tyvon Branch LaRon Landry Dashon Goldson Michael Griffin Dwight Lowery Thomas DeCoud Jim Leonhard Brandon Meriweather Reggie Smith Sean Jones Mike Adams Chris Harris Reggie Nelson Brodney Pool Husain Abdullah Tom Zbikowski Jordan Babineaux Madieu Williams James Sanders Steve Gregory Abram Elam Deon Grant Tyrell Johnson Dominique Barber Jarrad Page Craig Steltz Erik Coleman Bob Sanders Haruki Nakamura Anthony Smith Jarrett Bush Derrick Martin Chris Hope Craig Dahl Atari Bigby Corey Lynch Gibril Wilson Bryan Scott Quintin Demps Paul Oliver Matt Giordano Nathan Jones James Ihedigbo Courtney Greene Hamza Abdullah Antwaun Molden Jon McGraw Sean Considine Sabby Piscitelli Lito Sheppard Randy Phillips C.C. Brown Myron Rolle

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List
Nevermind, Jackson signed a two year contract last year. He'll be a FA after next season.

Re: 2012 Free Agency Wish List
That's actually a pretty cool claim to fame. Unfortunate, but cool.
