I don't mind that logo but compared to our current logo it really does suck. Personally I'm with Rave. Change the name while keeping the uniform, logo, and colors. Hopefully that way we can get on with our lives and end this media circus that is probably doing little to help the actual football team.

Miami U. offers to help Washington Redskins with name change - CBSSports.com
Semantics wise I wouldn't mind RedHawks save of course the fact it would mean changing the Native on the side of our helmet not to mention we would be the 15 billionth team named after a bird.

Re: Redskins Trademark cancelled

If we change the name, I might have to turn my fan card in. I fell in love with the Redskins as a kid, not the Redtails, Red Sox, Red Warriors, Redman, or Red Robin. Players come and players go, but that team name stayed all through these 80+ years. Other teams have changed names and done all kinds of bullshit like that, and for people who say it is the same as the "N" word.....GTFOH.

Rant over.

Um, the name won't change. This decision is going to be appealed by the redskins which gives them continued trademark protection until the appeal is heard. Last time, the appeal took four years to be heard.

Further, the appeal is likely to win based on the same reasons it won back in 2003. The argument is no different today than it was then.

They are trying to make this like the gay marriage controversy.

Danny wants to maintain tradition but the name controversy doesn't seem to be going away. I think the best option would be to call the team the Washington Braves. They started out as the Boston Braves so Danny will be retaining a part of team history while opponents of the Redskins name will be pacified. The colors, logo, etcetera would not have to change. Hell, the term "braves" is in the fight song. Just my two cents.

I'm amazed that some fans are already willing to give up just because they're tired of hearing about this issue.

Are you really willing to let this vocal minority win out with little to no new evidence than what was presented 15 years ago when this last happened?

If we roll over on this what's next?

Isn't 80 years of tradition worth fighting for?

Listened to Czaben on the way in and he called the people who support but think its coming regardless as "matter-of-timers" and surrenders. Stated this is worth fighting for and think quietly the NFL will make all resources available for the fight and will back Snyder 110%. Because once the Skins go away, the Chiefs are next in line.

Baseball and NCAA are all watching this closely.

I think once the NFL loses money, they will make the Skins change the name. This is the first decision is the first step that will see a decrease in profit for the NFL, making the NFL and Snyder try to challenge the decision, but if they fail I see no way the NFL allows the name to remain the same.

They wouldn't, unless the court upholds the trademark cancellation. Which it won't.

This has been all done before. Neither the NFL nor the Redskins ever lost money. This process will drag out for several years to come, so IF the decision is ever upheld by the courts, you're not looking at any money being lost anytime soon. I seriously doubt the Redskins losing their appeal.

Agree wholeheartedly. The controversy will never go away. But the only way the name will change is if the courts make Danny change it. Just hunker down, tune it out, and let due process play its course.

If anything, all this squawking just makes me dig in my heels further, even more insistent than ever on keeping our terrific name.

I agree. But this is what our society has become. Our courts are tied up on issues like this, while there is plenty of offensive things being shown on television that is in the name of "art" and "free expression" - such as profanity laced shows, music, nudity, realistic graphic violence, etc... nobody bats an eye or closes an ear to those things, but Lord forbid we allow a team to be called the Washington Redskins. Sure, the supports of that stuff will say simply don't watch or listen, but I'd say the same thing for Redskins football.

Changing the name does nothing to counter the real issues Native Americans face on a daily basis. It doesn't clean up television, it doesn't stop bullying, violence against women, drug abuse, or alcoholism.

If I were Dan, I would hire multiple journalist to write an article each week on different journalists/politicians that have done nothing to help Native Americans besides trying to change name.

I am not one who "rolls over" or goes along with PC crowd generally speaking, but here, for me, is why this is different.

I want to enjoy the game. I want to see my team win. I want to listen to announcers talk about the merits of our team, mostly I prefer that they speak positive about the on the field actions of the squad. As a Skins fan for the last 15 years that hasn't been a lot of the time. What I don't want is to have to listen to Brian Costas rail on my team at halftime, for some BS campaign that has nothing at all to do with the team. I get it, that makes me a quitter, a guy who surrenders traditions, etc. Except, I will still remember the SB's won by the Redskins, I will still enjoy reliving moments like Riggins Run, or Darrell Green's broken rib touchdown.

I just don't want my enjoyment of the team mired in the PC crowd's bog. Find a name that can link to the traditions, put a peace pipe on the helmet for all I care, just let me enjoy my team and put all this stuff in the wastebasket of history.

I can argue the merits of keeping the name all day long with those who think it ought to be changed, but bottomline, that's NOT why I watch the Redskins, or root for them every week, or even come on this board. I root for the team because I am a fan of the team, and if a name change lets the world move on and our team be celebrated/decried for the merits of the on the field action, then put me in that crowd.
