In my humble opinion, this is one of the top three posts I have ever read on here. At least for the 5 years I have been here.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

I'd put my money on the original head hunter. he has ties to the Richie Petitbone tree and my opinion is a good fiery DC who hasn't had the talent in the past but has done a pretty good job.

Indianapolis Colts: Greg Manusky

we need a little bit more of this....

In 2014, under Manusky....

The Colts also finished second in the league in third down percentage allowed (33.3%), which was the lowest single-season percentage allowed in team history since 1972. From Weeks 4 through 7, the Colts only allowed one third down conversion in four straight games, marking the longest such streak by an NFL team since 1970.

I like the idea, but only if he gets appointed to be our defensive captain every single game as some sort of public humiliation.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

I saw the Barry firing coming, but was also quite pleased to hear that Fewell won't be the DC...horrible job coaching the secondary IMO. Safety play never got better under him.

They really cleaned house...even throwing out the strength guy!

If I was Gruden, you damn well bet I would hire someone that I knew I could work with. There is no way I'd ever want that Ditka/Buddy Ryan drama going on in my club. I'd opt for the Joe Gibbs approach...one team pulling for each other.

But we're all different types & we'll see how it plays out.

At least it's a change that had to be made.

I wonder how long it will take to announce the replacement DC. I hope its a reasonably quick signing. Seems like several good ready to go options.

Glad to see Barry go, I understand he had a lack of talent but his scheme was brutal. It'd be interesting if we consider going a 4-3 coordinator. We have such a lack of talent at pretty much any position, I'd consider moving back to the 4-3 if that's what the best coordinator is comfortable with running.

As was pointed out before, the Redskins played plenty of 4-3 this year. The new defensive coordinator will be moot unless they find someone who can consistently rush the QB. The three defensive ends (Kerrigan, Smith+ Murphy) are inconsistent at best. I would like to see the number of hurries they had.... sack numbers are misleading if the DEs disappear for the rest of the game.

Junior is the wildcard, if he can stay healthy and regain his form from the past. He is the only current player with explosive speed.

The DC job should interest top candidates: we're going heavy on D this draft, the offense is in good shape, and the old guy is leaving small shoes to fill. The days when the best coach we could attract was Jim Zorn seem to be behind us.

Go brush up on the cap situation. Almost all of those guys will be back.
