Worst Deja Vu: Week 3, on the road, against a bad 0-2 team with a rookie quarterback, and the Redskins lose. This probably wasn't as horrific as the Lions game, since Detroit had lost 19 straight at the time and was a national laughingstock in the way St. Louis wasn't. But this wasn't good.

Worst Drive: The Redskins got the ball at their 37 late in the third quarter. They went incomplete (bounce pass to Roydell Williams), incomplete (off-target to Cooley), incomplete (pass behind Keiland Williams). The drive lasted 23 seconds.

Best One-liner, Part I: Sam Huff, before the game, when Doc Walker attempted to reassure the crew that Stephon Heyer would hold his own.

"He not only holds his own, he holds the opponent," Huff said.

Worst Talk: DeAngelo Hall said earlier in the week that this was his defense, and that he wanted to cover the playmakers on the other team. His defining moment from this game came when he slipped on a short pass to Mark Clayton, allowing Clayton to run free down the sidelines.

Best Quote: Brian Mitchell, in the Comcast SportsNet post-game: "This is a terrible team at this point....The game I saw today reminded me so much of last year, it's ridiculous."

Best Redskins Stat: Brandon Lloyd: 6 catches, 169 yards, 1 TD. Oh, wait....

Worst Redskins Stat: Washington has 115 rushing yards in the first half, and 1 rushing yard in the second half.

Worst Celebration: After the Rams converted a 3rd-and-6 late in the second quarter, LaRon Landry leveled Danny Amendola, and then appeared to celebrate. It was a vicious hit, but I still don't get how you can celebrate a play in which the other team gets a first down.

Worst Defense: In three games, the new Redskins defense has allowed 380 yards, 526 yards, and 365 yards.

Worst News: The Redskins defense just got shredded by a rookie quarterback in his third NFL game. Next week, they face Michael Vick, who just accounted for four touchdowns and better than 300 yards on his own.
That Sam Huff line made me laugh out loud. That is what I will think about tomorrow at work....because thinking about this game makes me want to throw up.

Special teams also sucked. A blocked kick and punt in back to back games is unacceptable.
Devin Thomas has been OK as a returner getting to the 30 most of the time but our punt returners have been crappy.
I think Danny Smith needs to go before Haslet. He just does not put a solid team out there.

Or depending on a volatile misfit. Albert looks lost out there, and I don't think it's just because of skipping OTAs. I think he's one of those "instinctive" players that needs to play "his" game of bum rushing into the backfield no matter what. Landry's also fits the "instinctive" player category, and they accomodated to his strengths.

On the streets or in jail? Now that's just stupid.

Answer to question 1:

Not necessarily, but Shanny just showed that Portis is nothing special and that a practice squad dude who's not a stumbling bama can be just as effective.

Portis can be a good third down back, becaus of his blocking although he blows as a receiver out of the backfield.

Portis is average. There are backs all over the league as good or better.

Re: Week 3: Redskins vs. Rams Gameday thread

We were just way to cocky going into the game. I mean these are the same Redskins that ALMOST beat the Houston Texans. For example

- Play Jamaal Brown at LT? F**k no. We're playing the Rams. We don't need to put Jamaal Brown at LT, we'll give Heyer some nice experience.

- Call blitzes against a rookie QB? F**k that, we'll save them for the tougher teams.

- Play one of the most talented defensive players in the league instead of a NT that's obviously still recovering from a torn achilies? Bwahahahaha. No we'll just use him on nickel situations. Besides he didn't show up to learn the crappy defense.

- Play Devin Thomas at Receiver with Armstrong on the sidelines? Ummm, don't you realize we have Roydell Williams? Did you just answer my question with a question? I don't know did I?

Cocky cocky cocky cocky. The arrogance of this team stinks like an expensive bottle of cologne that's been spilled all over a car.

No it is not stupid. How many of these kids do you really think could get into college without the football scholarship? I mean what planet are you from? 5 years ago the UNiv of Mich was tied with Fla St for the most felons on a team. THat is pretty pathetic to even have to have a list like that. Where do you think a lot of these kids come from? The streets!!! No football or basketball scholarship and these poor kids are probably stuck there, and that is bad news. So I will stand by my previous statement, because no matter how politically incorrect it is, it is pretty much reality. ALso, does Sean Taylor ring a bell? The poor guy beat the streets, but the streets came back to take his life.

Becasue he turns into a physics doll when he passes the LOS. If I was another team I would not game plan the run at all. CP is going to fall down regardless of contact.

Torain looked sharper in his cuts and had a little more burst.

They were blizting way too much on 3rd downs and the blitzes were getting picked up by the rams offense. What pissed me off is that we were playing too soft when we were playing a man coverage behind the blitz and way too often we were in zone behind the blitz. The coverage rendered the blitzes inneffective. I kept screaming at the TV for them to stop blitzing on 3rd downs if they weren't going to adjust the coverage behind it.

Re: Week 3: Redskins vs. Rams Gameday thread

I am pissed at a lot of things after this game.

1. The play of the team on all three fronts. Offense, defense, and teams. Offense could not convert a 3rd down to save their lives. The defense, as others have mentioned, blitzed nonstop on third down and left man coverage that was exploited time and time again but Hester and no name WR's. And yes Gano is not the normal punter, even though he did punt at FSU, but we can't even block up front and our kick returns were terrible.

2. The readers on here make me mad. Almost everyone on this site is more wishy washy than a 16 year old girl trying to pick out a dress for the prom. Or a pregnant woman trying to decide whether to eat pickles and peanut butter or anchovy ice cream. Everyone was pumped after the Dallas win, for obvious reasons. Everyone thought it was bad the team lost to the Texans, but showed a good offensive scheme and just let one slip away. Now we lose to the Rams, who always play us hard and match up well against us for some reason, and everyone is ready to fire all the coaches and cut 2/3 of the team. Calm the eff down. Rome was not built in a day. If you came into this season thinking we were going to crush people out of the gates for the whole season you need to find a new sport to watch. Expectations people. Are we improved from last year? I think so. Are we worse in some areas? Most definitely. Are we going to win it all this year or even make the playoffs? Up for debate.

The point is keep an even keel. There are going to be good wins (Week 1), and bad losses (Week 3). We have a legit front office and a legit coach. Let them work. These things take time.
