But since today's NFL is different than the one during his first tenure perhaps Gibbs would have drafted RG3 and started him right away. |

Consider that at the times Gibbs resigned in 2008, he did make mention that he would have held a QB compeition between Todd Collins and JC had he stayed as coach. I believe Gibbs knew that Campbell was not the answer deep down. Joe preferred veteran QB's because throughout his tenure as head coach it was always the veterans who performed well, played smart, and didn't make mistakes that cost the team...

Looking at Joe Gibbs II, it was just magical how he got his old QB's to play so well: Mark Brunell 2005 season: at 35 years old, had his best season as a pro. 23 TD's, 10 INT's, 3,050 yards. Brunell was very resurgant and was very dangerous once again up until he hurt his legs in December of 2005. Todd Collins: 36 years old in 2007, he had a great season even though it was for 4 games and about 1000 yards, but he did throw 5 TD's and 0 INTs, makes you wonder what he could have done if he had the whole 2007 season and beyond. Man i miss the good old days!

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
Warner had a hurt hand while he was in NY. Look at how his career finished up. He went out one of the all-time greats. No doubt we would have been as good or maybe better with Warner than we were with Brunell.

People say Sean Payton but he is not coming here, vacancy or not. Even if he did its no guarantee that he will turn the Skins into a success story. Why would he or any up and coming candidate come here? Without first round draft picks and a reduced salary cap starting a team and getting him what he'll need will be difficult, at best. And with it being his first year any forward progress won't be seen for a couple of years. For better or worse we're stuck with MS. I don't see things getting but stranger things have happen.

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
Ok, I'm sorry what is that in reference to? Is that related to something earlier in the thread? And Jon Gruden coming wouldn't be any different than Shanahans stint here.

Re: Should Mike Shanahan be fired?
I think the real question should be, why did Mike agree to coach this team knowing that it was in total shambles and needed a major overhaul?
My biggest gripe with Shanny from day one is that he didn't declare it a rebuild, and traded valuable picks for a aging QB and broken down LT. Why not just suck it up, keep JC and bring in Rex to battle for the spot, and build through the draft and FA. Just hold tight until a QB could be drafted (like this year) and roll from there. However, I had read some answer from his initial interviews when he first got here and KNEW it was going to take more than 3 years to clean out the old aging vets, and get young talent. When the said he told his son Kyle not to come that this place was a mess. It says a whole lot. Quote:
So again, why in the hell did he take this "trap" of a job? I assume it's because he had a huge chip on his shoulder to prove people wrong. He may have bit off more than he could chew with this mess we had. I firmly believe you don't correct 20 years of horrible culture and mismanagement with 2-1/2 years. It's not going to happen.
