Agreed, they should use him more in the rotation with Doughty until proven and who knows what Kareem Moore might be able to do when he gets healthy. This is a great position to be in.

Well even though the TV schedule said I would see the Giants/Rams, I was pleasantly surprised that they actually showed the 'Skins/Saints yesterday.

I was too caught up and "wowed" by Hortons nose for the ball. But I tend to agree with skinsguy here.

I have read most of the posts in this thread and there is an overwhelming majority that see Horton as the new starting SS back there. In his first NFL start he had a great game, granted.

But Matt Ryan had a great game in his first NFL start last week, and this week he laid an egg on the field.

Just wondering that if Horton keeps the starting job, if and when he has a bad game, will all of those who want him to replace Doughty be screaming for Hortons head on a stick? Once you get on a bandwagon, it can be hard to get off.

I normally wouldn't be all for replacing a vet with a rookie, but going back to preseason, there were countless examples of Doughty missing tackles. That shouldn't happen for a player that isn't that strong in coverage.

It looked like it was Spring fault. But I may be wrong.

Pretty easy INTs? Did you see how many INTs we dropped in the Giants game. Nuff said.

Re: Goodbye Doughty, Hello Horton!

Zorn said in his presser that Doughty will be back in the starting lineup on Sunday.

Quote:
"I don't know if [Horton] is ready yet to step in there every week and say he's a starter," Zorn said. "Reed Doughty is a guy that can get people lined up. There will be much more complicates situations that [Horton] would have to perform in to say that he is going to be the starter. But he certainly helped us have confidence in putting him in situations."

Level-headed decision. Horton will have his time. I've liked this kid since training camp but there is no need to rush things. Like I've said before, it's a great situation for us to be in.

I don't really believe him. Plus, he's kinda vague. He says Doughty can, "Get guys lined up." Big deal. So can Fletcher. Either way, get somebody else to, "Get guys lined up," -- or, better yet, get everyone to know their position on their own. Sounds like Zorn is just trying to avoid answering the question, and giving some bullshit excuse to keep Doughty in.

Game changing plays are hard to come by, and I can't remember a single one Doughty has made in all the time he's been on this team. Before week 1, if you told me that Horton would finish the season with 2 INTs and a fumble recovery, I would have been happy. Hell, he's already done that in one game.

I understand the plays were easy, and he'll have bad games. I just don't see any valid argument for starting Doughty.

Does anyone here even think Doughty would finish the season with 2 INTs and a fumble recovery, if he starts the remaining games? I don't.

Re: Goodbye Doughty, Hello Horton!

Honestly you guys should relax and take a step back. Horton did play well but,
1 not to take the starting job from doughty.
2 he wasn't tested 1v1 deep quite like Landry, so you can't really say with confidence that he's better then RD.
3. wait to get on the "Horton Train" till he plays a couple more teams with deep threats cause the Saints really had no one on the field who was a consistent deep threat.
.... with all that said if he continually plays well or a least better then RD I 'd give him the starting job, preferably beginning next season

I think all we need to know is right here:

Translation: good game but we need to see more of him before he's handed the job.

Re: Goodbye Doughty, Hello Horton!

We'll see on Horton. This was just one game. He defintely earned more playing time...and if he keeps playing well he will play more then Doughty. To coin coach Denny Green though...we don't need to go crowning his arse just yet. The last thing we need to do is name this rookie the starter and put unecessary pressure or added attention on him.

I don't think there's really any problem with that logic. Now if Doughty plays like scheisse the next few weeks and no change is made, that would be another issue.

Re: Goodbye Doughty, Hello Horton!

In summary: We should start Doughty because Horton is going to make mistakes. Weak.

I'd rather see Horton starting, and then just put Doughty in for all those "complicated situations".

I think he's just saying they haven't seen enough of him to trust that he can handle everything that's expected of the position. I don't see what's unreasonable about that.

WHY would Zorn give some "bullshit excuse" to keep Doughty in?
