Well in Peppers case he can be franchised

Re: Peppers says he wants to explore free agency

And I think Mark Sanchez is the trendy name this year that people in the know don't think will be successful, but Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, and Mike Mayock (among the internet guys) will "express concern about" him and put then put him in their Top 5 of all draft eligible players. Thousands upon thousands of prospects, and it's going to be the guy with the flawed statistical profile who gets propelled into the top ten.

Things are seriously messed up with the draft process, and for the last 4-5 years, it's been ripe for the great, brilliant NFL execs to just totally rape the other teams who go through the motions and believe the whole thing is a crap-shoot.

Re: Peppers says he wants to explore free agency

I actually think Gregg Williams had the draft process figured out to a degree. Have a feeling he screwed up on McIntosh's knees, but Sean Taylor, Carlos Rogers, LaRon Landry, Anthony Montgomery, Kedric Golston, HB Blades, it sure looks like he had the process figured out.

I'll have to keep an eye on Derrick Harvey, though, he didn't do much this year.

Apologies for steering this off of Peppers

Let's get back on that Colt for Peppers deal. I think that would fly what do you guys think?

It'd be a steal for us except for a few things

1. Let's say its Colt and Rogers or even Colt and the 1st, could we afford to take a chance like that? I mean Colt isn't offering us anything right now but his upside is greater (I would think) then what Peppers can offer us. Unless we think we're going to win it all next year which I doubt.

2. Where do we turn for backup help? Not in the draft, I've heard Zorn isn't impressed with any of this year's QBs

3. I'd guess the Panthers would make a push for Cassel before Colt. But if they really want to be dicks to Peppers they'll trade him to Detroit (where he gets his 3-4 defense wish) and they get their 20th and 33rd pick and maybe take a QB there.

4. The Panthers apparently fired their defensive line coach, I wonder if that's a move to appease Peppers?

Julius Peppers is great, but is he really worth our backup QB of the future?

Re: Peppers says he wants to explore free agency

How about a 3 way deal, we get Peppers and Haynesworth, the Panthers get Colt, the Titans get Delhomme. That would be money.

Can we also send Vince Young to the Chiefs who send a pick to the Cardinals who send Leinart to the Vikings and we get Steve Hutchinson?

I'm only on board if they throw in Bryant McKinnie as well.

How can we swing Peyton Manning somewhere in this deal?

Simple. Colt Brennan to the Jets, who package Eric Barton and a third round pick to the Broncos, who trade Champ Bailey, Elvis Dumerville, and Chris Kuper to the Colts who send Manning and a 6th round pick to us.
