Smootsmack started this with his question several years ago as to whether the Skins problems lay with the position coaches... since then we have begun speculating on various positions with the focus, of late, honing in on Hixon. Has it all been mindless, pointless chatter? If so, can we blame SS?

The anti-Hixon crowed seems to focus on this notion that he hasn't developed any young talent. Fair enough, but I'd argue what quality young talent has he been given to develop prior to Kelly and Thomas last year? Sorry but scrubs like Mix and Espy don't qualify to me. And for some reason Hixon's critics seem to overlook the fact that Moss and Randle El have both enjoyed career years under Hixon, but I guess for some reason Hixon should get no credit for that. The fact he's been with the team for 6 years now has to count for something. If he was such a problem as some want to think I just find it hard to believe he wouldn't have been replaced by now. Especially with a head coaching change it would have been the perfect opportunity to bump him out. Of course we can blame SS. When in doubt, just look his way.

I think Hixon is a decent coach. Nothing special about him really. But I don't know that replacing him would make any big difference for us.

Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
Im not doubting Chase, i saw many of his games while at Mizzou. But IMO unless Colt beats out Collins for the 2 spot i see him being the odd man out for makin the roster. could be a practice team guy.
Collins had the leg up in Saunders offense but now with the change to the WCO he is the same as the other QB's and is getting long in the tooth. He is a vet in the age sense only,he doesnt have experience in this offense which leads me to believe he could be expendable. especially if Zorn wants to keep Chase around. I dont see them -the FO- cutting Brennan. |

Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
I think if Colt somehow wins the #2 job that will mean Collins gets cut. Chase the #3.
Personally I think it will remain JC-Collins-Colt. But we'll see. |

Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
It could certainly be the end of the rope for Collins. He doesn't have much to offer if he's not playing. It's not like this is an offense he's extremely well versed in (unlike with Saunders). And at this point in his career, Campbell shouldn't really need to have another veteran on the roster to lean on.

Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
With the pay Collins is getting i cant see him stepping down to the 3 spot. IMO its 2 or done for Todd. But yes i believe Colt will beat him out for the 2 spot. We dont hear much about Todd in OTA's and he has become nearly non-existant.it seems Zorn put Colt and Chase on the field more in camp. I hear Chase got alot of reps on the last day so it makes you wonder.

As far as not hearing about Collins not sure where I read it recently but he's been sharp in OTA's and his arm strength has been improved over last year, apparently he had a shoulder issue last year that hindered him a bit. |

Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
Colt and Chase are obviously a more interesting story line than a 37 year old career backup.

Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
Here's what Zorn had to say about Chase
"I gave him more reps today than I have given him so far. He was probably a little surprised by that because I have been holding him back. But, he has done very well and he has improved. The things that I see with him are that he has a very accurate arm, a deceptive ball speed and he's picking up things every well. He has a tremendous amount of desire to play, he's asking the right questions and he's really preparing himself. So, you're going to be seeing him this preseason."

Re: Redskins June 2009 OTAs
Yes it would. I highly doubt it happens though. Only thing i could see happening is Collins is let go and the others just slide up a spot on the roster. Collins is getting old and he doesnt have the experience in the WCO that he had in the last system that helped him get a leg up on the others. The way i see it they are all learning a new system so it just depends on which route Zorn wants to go. Does he keep the ol vet or does he go with youth?

Question for anyone out there - did we restructure Collins after resigning him to that 3yr $9M deal last offseason? I was looking at the cost to cut him this year on the salary cap spreadsheets (same as keeping him - $2.5M), and it shows him under contract until 2013, with a 6 year deal totaling $13.5M.
