Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread

I think this video is a great microcosm of our season so far as well as a look into whats about to happen.

"Oh man things are good." - Me after we beat the Cowboys

"Oh no." - Me after we loss to the Texans

*Weird alien creature dropping towel out window* - Me after Rams loss

The green glowing guy....well thats Mike Vick against our Defense next week.

Three games into the season in a gutted/ripped out/Vinny fecked over/short on draft picks team and a lot of guys want to burn down Redskin Park already.

Definitely bottom of the league right now. There's no way in hell you go from a consistent top ten defense to number 32? The 3-4 isn't that bad. Haslett is horrible, no other way around it.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread

I agree that Haslett has sucked but in all honesty we just dont have the talent to be a great D..... Orakpo is amazing so he can play any defense, 92 is a really good DT not NT! Our corners are avg at best, Hall has games where he looks great and then he has games like yesterday. Carlos Rogers is a bum, the guy gives up stupid wide open plays every game, he can't catch worth a shit and is slow. Landry is a monster and run d and pass rush but his cover skills suck. Moore is young and athletic so he's also a keeper. Fletcher is a border line HOF player, but he doesn't fit the 3-4 scheme. Everyone else on the defense just isnt talented enough to carry this team. Look at Dallas for example, they have a great pass rush and very good Corners. Jenkins and Newman are as good as it gets.

Either way we have to rebuild and plan for the future, we don't have a win now team imo

The defense has issues but firing Haslett 3 games in isn't going to solve anything.

True, at this point we're married to Has and this crappy ass 3-4 defense. Scrapping him or the defense just isn't the answer right now. But he's done just a horrible job of implementing this system and an even worse job making in- game substitutions and game planning. Where's Jeremy Jarmon? Where's Chris Wilson for crying out loud!?

Look, the 3-4 works. But there's no way in hell we should be dropping from #10, or whatever we were last year, to last in the league. That's more than a personnel problem in my opinion. They came in here married to this defensive philosophy and now we're paying a dear price.

I've been listning to 106.7 the fan all morning and "not surprisingly" many of the callers are all blaming Haslett for the teams woes. It seems to be a never ending cycle among Skins fans.....as soon as things take a turn for the worse, start firing everybody, always the easy way out. It's going to take a while to get this team up to par, we're not going to get there by firing caches every year. Sometimes I wonder about some of these so-called Redskin fans.

I'm listening to 106 too, Longtimefan. Who should the fans be blaming? Please tell me who? Seriously.

The stats don't lie, we're the worse defense in the National Football Legue. The word is out on the street, you can run and look for certain blitz packages when you play the Washington Redskins. Sam Bradford, a rookie without his best running back, looked pretty darn good yesterday. We've effed around with our best defensive lineman for the entire offseason, plug him in nickel packages, Andre Carter is covering running backs, and Kemo, who can't be cut fast enough, is playing on roller skates the entire game. This falls squarely on Haslett's shoulders.

Yes, yes, yes, yes...this team is rebuilding and we don't have all the pieces right now. But what team has all the pieces? The Jets, horrible example I know, lost Kris Jenkins for the season and didn't skip a beat. My point is, teams adjust based on their current roster personnel and they move on. This is why there is so much outrage at Has and justifiably so.

I agree with every word you say. They're not going to fire Haslett after 3 games. What people are doing here is repeating over and over what anyone who knows anything about football has known all along. We don't have the proper personell at this point to run a 3-4 defense and there's no easy way out of the situation. I just think all the talk about firing the coach after 3 games is totally absurd because it's not going to happen. I'll say it again, it's going to take a while to right the ship, question is, will they get the necessary time?

I'm actually starting to think that firing him might not be a bad idea. Sure keep the 3-4 for now, but I have zero confidence in this guy Jim Haslett. While it's true we don't have the talent to run this defense, we do have talented players on defense; two Pro Bowlers and maybe two more in the making, Landry and D.Hall.

The opposing offensive coordinators seem to be two steps ahead of him and we're constantly reacting.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread

The problem I have is, why bring him in when the 3-4 isn't fit here? I can understand getting rid of Blache, but bringing in Haslett only sets us back a good 2 years maybe more.

Just wasn't a smart move.

Obviously you're not going to get every player you need in one offseason, and that goes for any system change, offense included. It's going to take another offseason to get closer to where things need to be on both sides of the ball.

I agree, I guess it's easier to change both things at the same time rather than fixing the O at one point and the D at that other, would take twice as long.

Guess I'm just becoming impatient with the team, same old story since 94 for me, it's depressing.

Absolutely. Its not the defense, or for that matter the offense, its that they dont have players talented enough to make it work. Getting that talent will take time.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread

I've always heard it takes 7 years to field a team to the point where it is dynasty/repeatedly competitive, like New England, IND, etc...

By the time this team is ready to go, McNabb would be 39 turning 40, probably retired. Portis will be retired. Cooley will be 35, our young players will be nearing 30. The whole team should be ready to go but we would probably definitely need a new QB by that point.

And thats saying Dan sticks with Shanahan that long. Even if it takes 5 years to get competitive, most of our standout players will be nearing retirement if not retired.
