Gotta love this from Wikipedia....

Oshiomogho Atogwe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Washington Redskins
On March 3, 2011, Atogwe ecstatically agreed to terms on a 5-year, $26 million deal with the Washington Redskins.[7]
Redskins fans are happy."

I guess I'll be the only one who's against this. It looks like he a proven playmaking type of safety, and the contract makes sense. But he's almost 30 and by the time this team plans to be a contender, he's going to be on the downside of his career. You get a player like this when you're on the verge of contending. So to me this is just another band aid type move.

So, given that:
1- your pro's (proven player, apparent good contract) aren't enough for you to have a positive response,
2- the team has more pressing needs (at least NT and QB) that have to be addressed in the draft

How should the team have addressed the FS spot in your opinion? or are you saying that you are good with Doughty/Moore until a high draft pick could be used for the position.

IMO go get a guy in the later rounds. Find a diamond in the rough. Coach up Moore and get him healthy. That's how I'd address it. Chasing a 30 year old safety when you're not contending for a Super Bowl makes 0 sense.

IDK about that man, sometimes it's not JUST about getting to a SB first.. You have to make a division run first.. Bottom Line is The guy will help our defense improve.

I just don't agree with signing a 30 year old safety on a bad team. OJ is not the long term solution IMO. But he's an upgrade so it is what it is.

Sure, if we traded picks to get him, this doesn't make sense. But since all it cost was Synder's money, who cares?? We unloaded a lot of contracts so I think we're looking good for the salary cap.

Atogwe is a good move because:
1) Free agent, didn't cost picks.
2) Seems like a good locker-room guy.
3) Good veteran who can help K.Moore/young secondary.
4) Makes our D more competitive & fun to watch.

Seeing #21 in the highlights was hard to watch. To think what could have been - at least this year we'll see a glimpse of good safety play again.

This is a great signing because OJ is a coverage FS, which we have been lacking for year since Talyor's death. Laron will now have the full freedom to roam around in the box and make plays as long as he can stay healthy.

In a 3-4 you need great lineman and a strong back secondary. I think we know have a strong back, now its time to get young up front.

Re: REAL football news - Skins sign Atogwe!

This instantly upgrades our secondary to best in the NFC East...........and should we sign Rogers, and have barnes as our nickel, and Moore as a capable safety backup, we are actually in a damn good position concerning the secondary.

Be optomistic people!!!! The chess pieces are starting to move.

Now if we could scrape out a 4th for Haynesworth and McDrabb, and pair em together for a 3rd round pick, we'd be good for the draft.

I think Atogwe has every right to wear the number considering the guy wore #21 in college and in the pros. (i know he's said he's not wearing it though)

edit: I like the signing, and hopefully it works a lot better than the Archuletta signing...lol
ST made the probowl one year.

How could a redskin fan forget ST was in the PB. Probably the hardest hit in a PB in the past 15 yrs.
