Wait, don't I get credit for questioning it when he was signed!! lol

To kind of bring things full circle on Mike's (umpteenth) FA mistake, I know some folks asked if anyone (probably me especially though) would still prefer Gaffney or some other average, veteran WR. I don't see how anyone would prefer otherwise.

Gaffney or another WR would have commanded $1 million/year guaranteed money, at the most. We're paying Garcon $5 million + per year in guaranteed money. Is Garcon five times more valuable than an average, veteran WR? Will he be five times for valuable that the avg, bet WR in any year of his career? LOL, he's not even twice as valuable. He's maybe the 3rd best WR on the roster. Will he be targeted a lot yet this season? Sure. Will he have the most TDs of the WR corp? Probably, given how much the offense is willing to sacrifice to get him the ball already. Will that prove he's better than Moss, worthy of the contract, or deserves to start? (Right now my starters would be Moss and Hankerson, with Garcon and Morgan and Robinson battling to be the the "3rd option")

Up to that point Ryan was totally off his game. But you knew he'd get his head straight at some point and we'd lose (regardless of RG3's injury).

Once again we we're soundly outcoached in all phases of the game. The league has completely got Kyle's number unless he puts the game in RG3's hands.

After five games there are three resounding facts that any honest, intelligent observer has to make:

1) This defense is garbage compared to the one Mike and Bruce inherited.

2) Our best downfield targets are guys Mike and Bruce inherited. As I've said since the end of last season, Fred Davis is our best target and Moss second, though the way Kyle and maybe RG3 as a consequence force the ball toward other WRs, namely Garcon, our best WR isn't getting much work. Garcon just isn't very good.

3) And most importantly, the Skins are still far and away the worst team in the division.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it has gotten almost ridiculous to come here (I won't even go in to ES) and read posts defending the Shanahans, or anything about the current regime. These guys (not the players) are losers, in every sense of the word.

We have RG3, but to save him we've got to get a real coaching staff and FO in place.
Just read your qoute, and I am thankful I wont have to again. I basically DIDN'T highlight everything I agree with you on it.

If the skins fire Shanahan, the guy they should hire is Greg Roman the OC for the 49ers.

Shanahan isn't going anywhere. Just because a few fans think they know what's going on in the FO doesn't mean that it's going to happen. The same FO that makes mistakes also..

- Brought in TW
- Brought in Morris
- Got RG3
- Got Kerrigan
- Resigned Fletcher

and the list goes on.... In a perfect world we would win every game, and the Redskins would win the Super Bowl every day.

I was at the game and it was very close until RG3 got hurt. I think that event deflated the team.

I really hope Shanny cuts Cundiff and signs Rackers plus Merriman. We need someone on the front 7 to command attention and free Kerrigan to make plays. He can be in a rotation with Jackson and Wilson.

Re: Falcons at Redskins Post Game Thoughts

Shanahan is not as good as people think. I think he needs replacing, but after this season of course. But that being said, he has done some good, namely RG3, Kerrigan, AlMo and Bowen, along with giving Perry Riley a shot to become a great player, which I believe he will be, and soon. But it just seems that Mike doesn't surround himself with the type of staff that is solid. I have said this before, but the game might have passed him by a bit, because in 14 calander years, I believe that an NFL head coach with his "history" should have had more than 1 playoff win. The defense is offensive, but there is hope with RG3. Its funny that the one game he quits using him as a second running back is the game he gets the shit knocked out of him, and gets knocked out of the game. That lad needs to know the situation, and understand that the extra two yards he got on that scramble was not worth that hit. Especially when you are trying to get an extra few yards for billy cundiff, who is gonna fvck it up no matter where the ball is on the field, 25 yards away or 55.

Solid post. I too see the positives Shanahan has given us, but I realize his own negatives (as a talent evaluator, HC) will always, always trump what he brings to the table.

Damn Cundiff is full of excuses.

so I got home watched a bit and cundiff is just awful, wtf man?? Griff needs to learn how to throw the ball away, Morris looks really good, oline did a OK job , Wrs still aren't doing much, defense did a solid job. Kerrigan is amazing, Jenkins looked good.

Pretty much I think we win with griff in the 4 quarter but shit happens. This team isn't a playoff team anyway and Atlanta is just better. I still see 7-8 wins. As for some who have asked if Mike is going to be on the hot seat? I still think he's here one more year for sure.

I agree with you on the first highlight and because I have that attitude about Griff and belief we could have won again today. I would say that this could be a playoff team with him and the win today. The NFC East leader is 3-2 and we are still one game out at 2-3. Our division has a really tough schedule this year and the way that all four teams play so inconsistently you never know what could happen even still. That is the fan in me but hey that is what we are right?

This team most likely will not make the playoffs this year, but we are so young and just really getting started as a complete unit. More youth coming in next year and a few FAs coming and going I am sure. We have a bright future here. The Skins are fun to watch again especially being able to carry that attitude about what will come and chalk all this up to a young team gaining experience. We cant get it all in one year especially getting hammered with the cap penalty.

Good things are coming to DC soon. Maybe as soon as next year. Who knows but we are gaining talent here, and not just guys that we only want which has been the case with our starters and depth in years past.

Re: Falcons at Redskins Post Game Thoughts

I didn't get to see the game because I was at work, but got to follow the absolutely atrocious gamecast on espn mobile...
That being said...I thought we would lose this one.
Without going into THE injury, or coaching, or anything like that (because I only saw highlights)
We are an average team, that got beat by an above average team...
The promising thing about this, though, is that we are finally an average team.
For quite some time now, we have been a below average team. We need to get healthy, and in sync.
And to go further (and this might be for another thread in a day or 2), but I see us taking the Vikings next week.
Even though this was a loss.......they are gonna go hard at Minnesota next week. I'm not Vegas, but I would bet on it.
