Re: Pick Your Next Redskins Head Coach

I'm actually a bit surprised I am not the only James Franklin vote.

Honestly, I'd be fine with 2/3 of this list. The no one will take this job arguments are a bit silly.

Out of those choices, best offensive system for RG3?

Re: Pick Your Next Redskins Head Coach

I chose McDermott for the soul reason that it is high time we try a defensive minded head coach. We have tried every type of offensive coach possible but barring a 1 year stint by Pettibon I cannot remember the Redskins ever having a defensive HC. It is time.

Bevell and Childress go way back though, to when DB was a freshman in college

Probably Whisenhunt or Franklin from a schematic perspective, but Whisenhunt was such a poor decision maker with Arizona. I'm not sure how much I want him making the calls for Griffin.

Fair enough. But for years we had a solid defense and it was the offense that needed help. Shanahan changed that equation because bad defenses follow him like dogs follow a butcher at work.

There was drama back then too, good read:

The Gibbs coaching search

I'm surprised Fangio doesn't have a single vote.

He has SO much talent on that side of the ball it's hard for me to determine if it's him or them. He's an NFL lifer, with the exception of his Stanford years. If he's HC material, why hasn't he been tapped before his recent success is my concern with him.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Well, it for sure is the talent, but he's not doing a dime a dozen job with that unit. I know he can't take that talent with him. It be cool if he could.

Re: Pick Your Next Redskins Head Coach

The fundamental issue with the "defense or special teams minded HC, paired with a strong OC" is that when you go that route, it's the offensive coordinator that gets thrown to the wolves to save the HC if the playoffs don't happen in year one or two. And the strong OC desire doesn't change that reality.

If the DC gets thrown out after a year or two, you can live with that. Coaching on that side of the ball is pretty fungible. Like, who are the great defensive coordinators in the league? Zimmer...and who, exactly.

I might have voted for him but when I voted he was not part of the poll. Maybe he benefits overmuch from considerable talent but his defenses are always top-notch.
