Re: The Cut List 2014

With he expanded PS, Hocker might go there and continue to work and learn. Then, he would be readily available if needed. That is the best scenario I can think of at this point unless they bring in a vet PK who was cut by another team.

Count me among those who believe that Forbath's poor kickoffs are going to hurt us this season. If the Skins can sign an accurate PK with a strong enough leg to virtually eliminate the threat of kickoff returns against them, I hope they'll do it.

I think the coaches probably didn't want to go into the season with a rookie kicker. Forbath makes most of his field goals and to me that's what's most important, not the kickoffs.

It's not necessarily a matter of choosing between two individuals each of whom has his weaknesses. The job description is to have both FG accuracy and kickoffs that aren't returnable. The Skins should not just surrender any advantage to our opponents. They need to keep looking for a PK who can do both.

Forbath should be viewed as our interim PK, as far as I'm concerned. I'm fine with his FG accuracy but that's only part of the job. His KO's are substandard. We can and should do better.

Kickers kick forever, so Mr. Right Kicker for Us might be 40 years old and working as a bartender right now. I don't care where they find him. They just need to find him.

I agree, and the same argument goes for punting. We lack franchise players in the kicking game all around.

Re: The Cut List 2014

I feel much better going into the season with Forbath than Hocker. We've all seen his expertise on field goals, and it's great that we still have a guy that can come out and nail them reliably. And perhaps an improved coverage unit will help mask his poor kickoffs.

Re: The Cut List 2014

Problem with Hocker is he wasn't all that accurate in college. To win the job he needed to have a perfect summer and he didn't. Tie goes to the vet.

But Hocker has potential.....have you seen videos of him kicking 60 yard FGs? His leg is undoubtedly stronger than Forbath's, who was far short of a perfect training camp and preseason himself.

Like I said, tie goes to the vet.

Hocker didn't do anything to stake his claim as the clear winner of the competition.

And it's not like Forbath is done improving his game either.

When do we start hearing about practice squad and waiver claims?

Re: The Cut List 2014

Forbath has improved his KO distance since last year, hopefully he can continue to improve in that area. He didn't kickoff in college so he's still a work in progress in that area.

Forbath averaged 66.4 yards per kickoff attempt this preseason. 60.2 and 63.2 previous years. Never did it in college.

Much rather have the accurate guy and hope he develops leg strength than the strong leg guy and hope he develops accuracy. Also, didn't realize Forbath didn't do kick-offs in college.

Good to hear. We may be OK, then.
