on a separate note, i finally saw the kite runner. add that to my list of books i've read/movies i've seen

Your strangeness keeps getting stranger. That story is odd but admitting you carry a fanny back is mind blowing.

In my mind you are moving into the Over The Mountain category.

Anybody gonna' bite and see the latest (LAST I would say) American Pie movie?

I remember when I was way younger, I loved Fast and the Furious and then they were all garbage until the most recent one.

Wondering if they reunite all those characters if it'll be worth seeing?

I've thought about it, even though I think this latest movie is nothing more than all these actors collectively getting together to try and grab one last big paycheck.

I'll probably catch it on a matinee showing.

As for Hunger Games, went to go see it last night and it was nothing great/nothing terrible. Other than the pagentry near the beginning I felt I'd seen all this before a decade ago in Battle Royale. I'm slightly interested in the books but the movie did nothing for me like the Harry Potter series did.

I was actually listening to an old episode of Loveline from a week or two before they were to release American Wedding (Eddie Kaye Thomas as the guest) and they were going on and on about how this completed the trilogy and how they were sure this (American Wedding) was the last one. Funny how that turned out with this latest flick.

Either way I didn't see the last one and the only reason me and all my friends saw the first one came about because "OMG SHANNON ELIZABETHS B00Bz OMGWTFBBQ!" Second one came out when I was still in high school as well so naturally I saw it but by the time AW came around I just wasn't really interested in the series anymore.

Personally, aside from being a potential cash cow, I just think they wanted a send off which included Chris Klein and Tara Reid, as the two were absent from the previous film. Thats assuming of course that they don't make American Divorce.

I was actually in American Wedding...no, actually I wasn't but during American Pie 2 while I was in a previous career I booked Jason Biggs and Thomas Ian Nicholas to come on our news show and promote their movie. Later that night, a few of us went out for drinks at Bethesda Crab House (if my memory serves me right) and we had a a bunch of girls-who, of course, were fawning over those two, that I had just been cast as the new kid for the next American Pie movie

Both great movies, but both totally different. Alien was more suspense/terror while Aliens was more of a sci-fi action. The suspense from Alien was incredible. The scene with Dallas in the tunnel had the heartbeat going on in the background which built up the suspense even more.

They could have stopped making Alien movies after James Cameron was done with Aliens. I really don't even acknowledge the other ones. :P

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Hunger Games is a better film than Battle Royale. I also think they're two totally different films that stand on their own. BR isn't a unique concept- it also combines elements from The Long Walk, Running Man, Ender's Game, Lord of the Flies, The Most Dangerous Game, etc. Even the ancient Roman gladiators fighting in the Coliseum can be sourced.

THG is a much more subtle film than BR, but briskly paced nonetheless. 2.5 hours never felt so fast. I dug the score, shaky-cam and most of all, the acting. Jennifer Lawrence is amazing (peep Winter's Bone if you want some serious cinema).

Why is it such a big fuss that Rue is Black in the movie?

Because sadly people are idiots as both her and Thresh were both described to me by my friends who've read the books that the specific description of Rue is "a twelve-year-old girl from District 11. She has dark brown skin and eyes."
And some of the comments made by some of the posters make me sick to my stomach that some people still think this way.

I've never read the books, so I guess I'll leave the answer to sft&t.

But considering how this world's districts are structured, this casting seems perfectly fine.
