GOOD MOVE! I can just see JC's knee getting better...and Portis and Betts smiling.

Don't get sentimental over Marshall as when he was here he played well but no well enough to win. You have to get the players that will win now...Gibbs may not be around in 3 years to see a rookie gaurd finally play up to potential.

Perfect deal...we need to make sure we have the plans in place to replace HIM....but that was obviously a big need on our end...

this is a good move. 5th for a starting quality guard when it's an obvious need makes a lot of sense. too bad they didn't address it sooner, like during the last two drafts though :/

Wow! 106 for Kendall to 5 against at 10:30 p.m. Thursday night Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

That poll seems overwhelmingly for the trade. I am certainly for protecting JC at the cost of a 5/4th round DP. No, I don't think this move is anything like the TJ Duckett move, nor do I think we are cap-strapped. I watched the Steelers game three times, and of course the hit. I cringed each time, even knowing the eventual outcome, and that JC will be back next week. I only question Kendall's attitude and the pain killer problem until I see him play, and hear that he has adjusted to being in B&G.

The Pete Kendall trade was a fast one, put together by the Redskins and the Jets in less than 24 hours. The Jets will receive a fifth-round pick in 2008 if Kendall plays 80 percent of the snaps this year; the pick would be a fourth-rounder in '09 if he plays more. Over the past three years, Kendall has played at least 90 percent of the snaps in each of those seasons. Acquiring Kendall resolves several things along the offensive line. First, it stops the conversion of Todd Wade from tackle to guard. Wade will now be the backup tackle. Second, it gives the Redskins some beef on the interior of their offensive line. The Redskins' schedule dictates that the team can't be too small in its interior blocking.

Kendall gets his money: The loser in the Kendall trade was the Miami Dolphins. They had been hoping Kendall, who didn't want to stay in New York because the Jets wouldn't give him a $1 million raise, would be cut. That wasn't going to happen. Had there been no trade offer, the Jets would have kept Kendall even if he were unhappy. Once the Redskins got involved, things started moving pretty quickly. The trade gives the Jets eight draft choices in 2008. Kendall was also a winner in the trade. Though his preference would have been to stay in New York if he got paid, Kendall proved his point. He wanted to get a raise from $1.7 million to $2.7 million, and teams were willing to accommodate him. Aside from the Redskins and Dolphins, the Chiefs also had interest. Kendall will now make $2.7 million this season and $2.3 million in 2008.

Everyone should check out the Kendall interview at Redskins.com. He's wicked smaht. I thought Godfrey seemed like a high I.Q. guy as well, so maybe Gibbs is living up to his promise of bringing in smart, tough players.

The guy is nothing special, but he seems that way compared to what we have, which speaks volumes in itself, the fact that we didn't address the left guard position in this draft shows the lack of ability by the personel dept. to realize what we need. One of the reasons we didn't address it is because of miss use of picks from the day Gibbs returned, we will give up a fortune for skill players and forget what makes them great, and that is the offensive line. Kendall is not a bad pickup considering our need at the position, he's an average at best guard, who is 34 years old, but we should have built our line way past the likes of Kendall by now.

Kendall is not a potential HOF candadite, that is for sure. But to get the quality lineman that you have in Kendall at this time of year is a very good bargin.

When most of the new additions to teams in August are camp fodder from other teams, the Redskins have added a starter and depth for a 4th or 5th rounder. That is pretty good if you ask me.

This years draft was not very deep in line talent, but the '08 draft is projected to be very deep in O-line talent. A lineman taken in the 4th or 5th round of '08 could potentially have been a second or third rounder in '07.

This was a sound move by the front office. Nothing to jump up and down and call in sick for, but also nothing to hang your head about either. Just a good solid move.

I mean, at least the Skins were not bidding against themselves this time (a la the Mark Brunell trade a few years back). Kendall was not going to be released, at least two other teams had interest, he was the best thing available, and he upgrades the line at a need position. JLC et al. can gripe that they should not have let the situation at LG deteriorate to this point, but it did and the FO worked to fix it. Sure, we'd all like to have a full compliment of draft picks, but I'd rather give up a 4th or 5th round pick if that means keeping Jason Campbell upright during the season. The comparison to the McNair and Green trades does not hold anyway as those guys were going to get cut regardless. If the Skins wanted this deal to go down they need to offer up what they did. It's not like the gave up a first day pick and not having a 4th round pick in 2009 isn't so bad as long as they can manage to hang on to their other six choices. Good move, and the only one they could really make.

I'm very pleased with this deal. I don't have too many concerns about the upcoming season, but this was #1 on that list. I was worried about why the Skins didn't feel the need to acquire a guard through the draft or free agency. I know they thought Wade could make the switch, but entrusting a backup tackle with a starting guard spot never sat very well with me. I love this deal. Bringing a veteran who has the ability to be a starter on this team for a second day pick is something I would do any day of the week. (However, I would not do it with every second day pick)

This team needed somebody they could trust to plug in at guard and, even if he doesn't start, he is a welcome addition. I was also concerned about quality depth on the O Line and, at the very least, Kendall will provide just that.

Im gonna reserve judgment on this manuever until the details come out, but my gut tells me that once again the past decisions of the front office forced them to overpay for an old fart.

I am excited to see how he meshes with the line in the next 2 preseason games. I think this is going to be a great pick up for a 5th round pick.

My problem is, assuming its a 5th rounder, we once again traded away a mid round pick for a 34 year old, and paid him relatively well on top of that. IF Vinny, Gibbs and the boys were on their game, O-line depth would not have been such an issue that they HAD to go out and overpay for someone well past his prime.
