I'm not totally thrilled on Shanahan having final say on personnel either-though I'm sure there will be a strong staff supporting and informing him-Shanahan is notorious for being a risk-taker in personnel decisions. So we'll have some head scratchers for sure.

But I'm excited about Shanahan the coach and Kyle Shanahan the OC

I agree...Allen should be here for a reason.

Enough of this Democratic tiebreaker BS. Someone needs to be the definitive personnel selection person and it shouldn't be Shanny. Have Allen hire a VP of Player Personnel or Ops to assist him.

It's the Redskins that deal with the team that Shanny leaves when he's gone. We need to have a stable and uniform direction if he is to leave our team or not sign again after 5 years. Have Allen and hired assistant take care of our personnel. Shanny needs to write an anti-owner influence clause and call it a day.

This whole decade is starting out in a better way than Snyders first decade. I hope it is the rejuvination of this franchise that every fan has looked for since JG was re-hired.

Do you know if this means Shanny will have final say on the draft SmootSmack? I would expect him to have a strong imput but I'm hoping BA has final say in that area.

Tough to say for sure right now until the whole front office shakes out. Ultimately Shanny will have final say but Allen and the other guys will have major, major input and Shanny's decisions will be essentially based on what options Allen provides.

Redskins fans should all be happy today. We've got 2 professional leaders at the top of our organization. They've both had success and are running our team now. It's a great day.

It's not going to be fixed overnight though. Have a little patience. It might be a few years. We have a direction now though.

This is a classic rebound choice. After a coach with little experience and control DS hires a coach with a ton of experience who exerts much more control. Kind of like when he hired Gibbs after the OBC.

DS didnt fail to make the obvious choice with lots of name recognition and I hope it works out. My only concern is Shanny's lack of success without a QB named Elway. Hopefully that problem wont follow him to DC.

How did he do with a loser named Jake Plummer?

You mean the lack of success of going to the playoffs with Gus Frerotte, Brian Griese and Jake Plummer? Yeah, dude was terrible with QB's. I hope he hires a competent QB coach. There was a guy out in Seattle a couple of years ago, Zorn I think. Anyone know what happened to him?

This is best coach we've had here since Joe Gibbs first tenure with the team. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm happy.

Player reactions:

washingtonpost.com

Fletcher sums it up well:

Quote:
"Being able to add a two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach, it's phenomenal," middle linebacker London Fletcher, a defensive captain, said while attending the Washington Capitals' game at Verizon Center. "He commands respect from the players right away. . . . He instantly becomes the face of the franchise."

Shannahan wouldn't come to the Skins if he didn't have final say in football matters. If Snynder is truly out of the way Shannahan will be here for five years. However, if Snyder is still meddling then Shannahan will be gone in a couple of years much like Schottenheimer let go.
