Combination of not wanting him and getting a chance to move up in the 5th round?

I don't see how they owe Haslett a thing. He should be happy he has a job this yr and if anything he should feel he owes Shanahan something.

But to your point.... Haslett was handed the 4th ranked defense. He has a hell of a lot of toys one defense. If anyone is owed anything it's the OL coach....and maybe the WR coach....T.O. lol. JK.

They just got far enough into the process that they realized other teams knew Carriker didn't fit into the Rams system and thus realized the Rams had no bargaining power. We may end up in the same boat with Carter, although I think a guy not coming off an injury and having 11 sacks should be worth much more.

Actually he technically is:
Redskins OLB/DE Andre Carter (biceps surgery) is already in
Remember he tore it late during the season.

When we drafted Laron Landry, I wanted Carricker. I guess looking at this trade, we did the right thing taking Landry. It looks like they gave us Carriker, for a pack of Snickers. I am still happy we got him. I think he would fit perfectly in a 3-4 at DE.

Proof that we now have professionals running this team. Great pick. If I recall correctly, alot of mock drafts had us taking Carriker in 2007 at 6th overall (him or Okoye). We got Landry (who I'm still high on) and get Carriker 3 years later for moving down 28 slots in the 5th round.....great job.

With Orakpo saying that he will be playing mostly on the right side at OLB (via an interview), it looks like Jarmon may work out well playing on the left side OLB. The grading from Scouts Inc., shown by Dirtbag, seems to support the transition.

I honestly don't get this move. Why are we trading for other teams' 1st round draft busts? Because Haslett is familiar with him? That's it?

He's not your typical first round bust. From what I hear he has a very prototypical skillset to be a 3-4 DE, and the good news is this time around people won't ask him to get a bunch of sacks to be considered productive rather he'll be asked to distract blockers, play hard against the run, and get a strong push inside on passing downs, all task he's capable of performing.

2009 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 70 | Key

Comment: Carriker suffered an ankle injury last season and was moved from NT to UT where he could be a better fit going forward. Carriker has good size and strength with good quickness. He can be physical playing the run. He has enough strength to control the center and keep LBs free from behind. He reacts well and shows good effort and toughness. He is quick enough to penetrate and disrupt blocking schemes but tends to play slightly upright where he can get washed inside at times. Athletically he has good agility. He can sink his weight and locate the ball quick inside. As a pass rusher he is active inside but needs to refine his up field moves. He can create the inside push when he reverts to the power rush but is missing the quick burst to clear at this time. His ability to combine his moves needs developing. Overall, an active, intense player inside whose second season production was affected by injury during the year.

Okay, that's somewhat encouraging. Probably wasn't scouted properly, or perhaps was a reach. He's just one of those DEs you can't have any expectation of getting to the quarterback -- basically like Philip Daniels.

I have no problem with that, but with AH at RDE most QB's blindside you know he's getting to the QB and when he get's double & tripple teamed Carriker will get some sacks as will the NT.

He fills a need, he comes for basically peanuts, and by all accounts he'll finally play in a system that suits him as a player. What else is there to get?
