Re: RGIII undergoing total reconstructive surgery: out 6-8 months

Bigger picture is that our franchise QB is now becoming Michael Vick and not Aaron Rodgers. Only one season and a concussion, LCL strain and then ACL tear. The concern in my mind is that he and the coaching staff still refuse to admit his risk of injury with his current style of play.

I fear that this means he'll have 8-10 years of 12-14 game seasons, and hopefully a lucky one or two where he stays healthy long enough for the postseason to take us deep & maybe to the Super Bowl.

He's smart, so maybe he could change his game and finally start throwing passes away & sliding to avoid contact. But I fear his competitive spirit will drag down his career unless Shanahan finds a way to limit his injuries.

Our franchise needs consistency than an isolated great year or two. One good year can get you to the first round of the playoffs, but a consistently good team eventually will win it all several times.

It's funny you should mention Aaron Rodgers. If you recall Rodgers was the least durable QB ever when he started his career. Broke his foot in cleanup duty for Favre in 2006 and missed the rest of the season. The season after that he was inactive for 4 or 5 games due to a hamstring injury, still while being Favres backup. Then in 2010 Jeremy Jarmon gave him a concussion while pulling back on a hit.

He is now the most sacked QB in the game (8 sack first half vs Seattle on MNF anyone?) and yet he's remained reliable.

SI.com - NFL - Aaron*Rodgers Injuries

All I'm saying is RG3 can ironically get more durable as time goes on, as he learns to protect himself while getting more and more used to the hits.

Chris Russell ‏@Russellmania980

Heard back from Dr. Andrews via text on RG III - as he did on Tuesday & now again Wednesday - he says the #Redskins will not let him talk.

Not surprised by this.

Why should they let him talk? It's not his place.

Annoying maybe. However, give me a name of another QB that averages the same # of rushes per game? Maybe Cam Newton...

The fact is, there is a reason RBs have such a short life span in the NFL, because of the weekly beating their bodies take. It is only logical to assume that QBs who run more (notice I didn't say "running QBs") would likewise have a shorter NFL life span than QBs who don't.

RGIII obviously has more talent than Vick (IMO), but it is possible that we won't get to enjoy it for long if they don't curtail the pace at which he rushes the ball. Which pisses me off, because I want them to use that part of his game - as much as or more than they did this year...His body may not hold up though.

That's true. I've known about Dr. James Andrews for years and year....big time doctor that has operated on many WWE wrestlers.

He's also worked with Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Albert Pujols, Michael Jordan, Jack Nicklaus, Emmitt Smith, and Bo Jackson.

I'm kind of surprised they're allowed to talk at all, pretty freely most of the time. Can you imagine if your medical information was plastered all over the news?

He's not talking because if he tells the truth, heads will roll... Smart not to say a word at this point.

2013 season implies entirety. Ready for the 2013 season means ready for the 2013 season imo, not ready for part of it. He even prefaces it by saying everybody is "hoping", etc. If he meant part of the season i dont think he would be so dramatic because I dont think anybody is questioning whether he will be back at SOME point during the 2013 season.
Edit: im not saying its out of the question that he misses time, just that i dont believe he was mincing his words. Thats all.
