Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips could soon be free agent

Re: The coordinators

Their whole premise is that if he isn't resigned he'll be on the market? Weak. I'd love to have him but they are basically saying Elway might just not resign the architect of the sole reason they have a good team.

Re: The coordinators

Well, they inferred that Denver might be inclined to let him walk because they have an assistant they like for the job

Re: The coordinators

It's definitely not a bad thing if multiple quality defensive coordinator candidates become available. This is the guy I wanted all along when we got rid of Haslett.

But even if we don't pursue Wade, he might intrigue another team who's looking at a D coordinator, which improves our chances at getting whoever else we target (whether Bradley or Guenther or whoever).

I hope the market gets flooded with good defensive coordinators.

Re: The coordinators

I have always liked really successful NFL coordinators that were so successful they were given a head coaching job. Failed as head coach and are back to being successful coordinators, where they belong.
Wade Phillips and Norv Turner come to mind.
Excellent and qualified coordinators, not made to be head coach.
I really do not want us to waste time with young, unproven, inexperienced and not yet successful coordinators.
I do not care the Wade Phillips and Norv Turner are considered old. I consider it a good thing. The best coaches I ever had the privilege to be coached by were older guys that have a ton of experience.
I do like our current offensive and defensive coordinators. They are helping, they are part of the problem.

Re: The coordinators

Anyone else feel like they would like Rex Ryan here for Dc... but feel like he's too big a personality or high profile to JUST be a coordinator? Especially with a head coach like Jay who, to me, is kind of on the softer side personality wise?

Re: The coordinators

They are interviewing him to be the Head Coach? That is laughable. He can't even remember to run the ball or score in the red zone. He is going to be a Head Coach of the whole team? Good luck with that.

Re: The coordinators

Not including above, I want all of the coaches back next year to make 1 more run at it. I think our defense will be much approved next year and I'd like to see Barry have a fighting chance.

After seven years of total ineptitude on the defensive side(starting with Haslett and concluding with this season) I just want to see them somewhat serviceable. At this point I would give my Gram or nieces a shot at coordinating it if it would help.

I am not opposed to giving your Gram a shot. At least with her the guys would get cookies or knit scarves or some shit. Barry did nothing for them

What do you think it would take to sign your nieces? I'd support hiring one as DC and one as OC. Also, do you think your Gram would be interested in coming out of retirement to interview for the HC position? I mean, I'm not bitter about Sunday's loss or anything like that but if we can do better...

Re: The coordinators

I'm fine with bringing another DC and I hope the team addresses the big holes on the defense.

I'm more concerned that with all the talent the offense has, we continue to put shit shows like this past Sunday. We have all this talent on offense, and the offense gets shut out in the first half and only manages to put up 10 points on the biggest game of the year? Ridiculous.

But the game to get in the playoffs against division rival? That's unacceptable imo

Kirk was clearly off even when he had time. Gruden could not speak apparently at the half to call a timeout and save enough time to gain ten more yards and get points. We cannot run block against anybody or ever score in the redzone. Giants might have a solid D, but we didn't help ourselves at all.
