Yeah I know I was just saying that RB is a lot for a 3rd stringer- prob a big factor in being close to cutting him.

It would be great if all the top prospects started throwing at the combine.
I hope, like Cam Newton, all top QB prospects decide to throw from now on.

I agree. I remember a lot of fans liking him and thinking he would turn out pretty good. I wonder what happened? was it the coaching change? or the system. I wouldn't mind kicking the tires. He can't be any worse then Crompton.... can he?

The only negative I can see is if he's not ready or has not been working out, which I doubt is the problem. The other negative is him throwing to WR's he's not worked with and could make him look bad.

But does it really matter? If the Colts are set on taking Luck then it shouldn't matter if he sucks it up or if he comes out blazing. The Colts would be better served to tell him not to run the 40 so he doesn't hurt his foot or knee or hammie.

I would prefer Ponder to Sam Bradford. I thought Ponder displayed a better arm last year (maybe because of indoor home games?) than he did in college. He made all the throws. His problem was that he misread a lot of coverages as a rookie. Bradford's problems are more about physical limitation.

Really? I never really thought arm strength was Bradford's issue. Then again, I never really watched the Rams beyond the one Redskins game...

It's not arm strength that's the issue. It's not accuracy that's the issue. It's that the ball very often dives or sails on him when he's forced to quickly reset, which was pretty much all year this year because the Rams OL was trash.

Bradford is plenty smart enough to get it, but he came into the league really smart, and he's struggled to overcome himself, not to mention his own offense.

Ponder is far from a finished product, but he makes plays. Once he cuts the mistakes out, I think he'll be a very good pro starter. Ponder's problem is he's got to figure out a way to survive as a starter in this league even though the position prototype is shifting away from people who look like him. Bradford looks the part, but his obvious limitations always have me scratching my head as to how he got picked first overall ahead of Suh. Bradford needed a really strong offensive structure and system to be effective, and instead he got: the Rams.

The only other negative you can think of 'looking bad' would be a rather large negative.
And that is the exact reason why most top QB prospects don't throw at the combine if they can get away with it and Luck certainly could.

If Luck chooses to compete in the throwing sessions at the combine he takes on the needless risk of being upstaged; the risk of not throwing or looking like the best QB prospect on the field.

Keep in mind I'm not saying the above will happen.
I'm just pointing out the chief 'negative' if Luck chooses to compete at the combine when he can wait til his pro-day.
Now, if Luck does choose to compete it will say a lot about his personality and competitive spirit; it will be ballsy.

I hope the kid goes out there and just grips it and rips it! let the cards fall where they may.
Go out there and show you've got nothing to hide.
Compete shoulder to shoulder with the other QB prospects.
It will continue a great precedent started by Cam Newton.

Uh-Oh... spaghetti-O's.

Report: Mike Shanahan "Loves Quarterback Brandon Weeden" - Hogs Haven

Now I know some of you are going to be un-happy, but .....c'est la vie.

I get the sense that this is a smoke screen (as the picture indicates).

I'd have no problem with Weeden. But at this point anything is possible.

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search

if i'm being honest with myself, if we draft a qb, i'm going to focus on his pros and forget his flaws in order to convince myself that he will lead us to the top shelf

Re: The "Inside Word" on the QB Search

Of all the rookie quarterbacks, Weeden is by far the one most likely to be drafted by the Redskins.

I don't think he's their first choice though, but if choices one and two are off the board at 6th overall, then sure.

Definitely not, but he's part of the overall thought process no doubt
