Stadium Rumors
I have heard some whispers, but no articles or news stories that the Redskins may seek to build a new 100,000 seat football only stadium at RFK after the Nationals leave for their new stadium in 08.
Again, I have neither seen nor read any news stories nor articles related to this subject, I have only heard rumors concerning the subject so I don't know how true it is. Are there any thoughts from anyone concerning such a potential scenario? I for one have very mixed feelings if this ever happens. FedEx is just starting to finally gain slowly but surely that homefield advantage that has been badly missed since the days of RFK. FedEx while not the fanciest and best located of football stadiums is modern, newer and in terms of capacity, luxury seats and club level attractions will allow the SKINs to financially top all teams in revenue for a long time to come. Why leave? But if we know the Dan, he has high asperations. He seems like the type of guy that would want his own legacy and his own playpin, especially with the other area franchises either downtown (Wiz, CAPS) or heading downtown (NATS). He's going to want a piece of the action. Once RFK is left, it will be interesting to see what happens. |

Re: Stadium Rumors
I can't see that happening with the relative "newness" of FedEx.

Re: Stadium Rumors
Yeah, I do not think that will happen either, hell the stadium was only built like 8 or 10 years ago!!! I sure hope stadiums get more than 10 years of use out of them because if they dont I am officially starting my very own Stadium building business!!!

Re: Stadium Rumors
If anybody can afford it it's Snyder. I've always wondered what a Snyder built stadium would look like. One could only hope that he would avoid those obstructed view seats.

Re: Stadium Rumors
I think without a doubt this rumor could be true. It's no secret that Snyder has been pissed about getting rejected for the Super Bowl because FedEx doesnt have a dome. Not only that it brings football back to "Washington" if you will.
I could totally see this, granted I wouldn't be the least bit suprised if it's fake.

Re: Stadium Rumors
I would like this scenario if nothing else because it would probably bump up a lot of us who are currently pretty deep on the season tix waiting list. How about it Danny-Boy?

Re: Stadium Rumors
Yea right! And what will they do? Just sell Fed Ex to a Soccer team? The Redskins own all that property in Landover. They get all the parking $$ on top of the ticket & concession sales. Why would they go and lease the property RFK sits on? So the could share that $$ with somone else? Just look at the pic above, and tell me that's not a cash cow. It would be cool to have the Redskins back in "D.C." But It won't happen.
Nice pic Malcolm

Re: Stadium Rumors
Fedex seats over 90,000 now so why would he spend all that money to add a few thousand seats. If Fedex was around 60,000 or so, I could see the need.

Re: Stadium Rumors
I would think they would continue to renovate FedEx rather than building a new stadium. Fedex would only be 11 years old in 2008.

Re: Stadium Rumors
Actually, the unconfirmed additional rumor that I heard was that Synder in doing this would sell FedEx to developers who are really pushing hard to develop in PG County and he in turn would buy RFK, the land and build the new stadium and demolish RFK out of his own pocket. Don't know if this is true either, just reporting what the rumor is.
But I agree, the purpose of these new stadiums is to boast team revenues and make teams competitive in free agency. How can the SKINs get any better of a revenue set up in terms of a "newer" stadium than FedEX. and after this baseball mess who the heck would want to give up this set up and deal with the D.C. Gov? Jack Kent Cooke was brilliant. He realized that by using his own $ to build a stadium and buy land and design that stadium specifically around capacity and premium and luxury levels that the team would rake in all the cash and would have to share it with D.C. Snyder added to this and this is why we are the top revenue team in the NFL and other than the Yankees in all of sports today. |

Re: Stadium Rumors
Maybe this time they'll think to include digital support in the new stadium so the big screen is really big.
