A little something else on Arrington
But no matter the method used by the pats coaches to determine a pass defenesd,Bruschi certainly was an active guy last season. Then agian, his 16 pass deflections are still four fewer then Washington Redskins LB LaVar Arrington posted in 03.There were just four DB-Ty Law of New England(23) Houston's Marcus Coleman(23) Tyrone Poole of New England(21) and Fred Thomas of New Orleans(21)-credited with more passes defensed than Arrington had. This was in the espn nfl notes section.I though this was cool.

Hell yeah! That is very impressive! Maybe he can get more SACKS this year and be in the top 5 in both categories.

The funny thing about Lavar, as you watch the games, you'll hear the announcers say "Again, it's Lavar Arrington that makes the play." Then some games he seems non existant. I can only hope it was bad scheming, and he can be a playmaker on a regular basis.

Lavar doesnt have top five stats for linebackers but if there was an assist category he would be off the charts. I loved watching the game against the Ravens in the preseason because I think Lweis and Arrington are two of the most fun players to watch. Lavar is usually in on everyplay. Our dline was of no help so he would always be chacing backs down, or picking up tes and breaking up the pass. Everyone expects more out of him, but hes still a great linebacker.

This is another indication of Lavar's amazing gifts as an LB. I can only wonder what it would have been like if he had just ONE d-coordinator (Williams, say) for his whole career so far. There would be little doubt about his status in the NFL.
I do believe that Williams will really use Lavar well, and not only because he needs a pass rusher so badly. I am excited to see how he uses him, especially in conjunction with Washington and Taylor. We should see some serious hits out of these three!

I do agree that he plays like he could have used better coaching, but when Lewis was here, he commented about how much he didn't like the system or agree with how he was used on 3rd downs. He's already mentioned this offseason that he finally sees what Lewis was trying to do. That may have been a problem of Lewis getting buy-in, or may have been Spurrier's credibility problem, but learning from mistakes now is better than never.

I think LaVar is just used to doing his own thing and making plays. There is no doubt that he wants to win, but he was reluctant to "buy in" to the d-coordinators because he knew he was going to be there longer than that guy. Lewis's scheme was all about discipline and trust, it works better the longer you are in it as you come to believe in your teammates. I think LaVar will LOVE this new scheme, I'm sure Williams will a way to keep LaVar in the middle of the action.
The one thing that the pass deflections show to me is that LaVar is a playmaker. I can't wait to see him rushing off the end, he should easily post double digit sacks again this year. |

The only issue I am worried about with LaVar is the same one he is worried about - his contract.

im to the point where I dont ever worry about contracts anymore. Snyder is willing to throw out big money for upfront payment. I raed a article the other day about how teams that arent doing as well can affolrd to do what Snyder and Jerry Jones to. Im glad we have an owner who has the money to throw around.

I agree with dieselhog. Does anyone know what the outcome of Lavar's grievance is (if it's been decided yet). I haven't gotten my Arrington jersey yet because of this ongoing problem. One possible outcome was that the Skins could lose him over this.

I never thought losing him was ever an option. he does have a signed contract. I thought it was just a matter of a bonus on one of the years on teh contract. Last I heard Lavar stopped pushing it becuase he was happy again. That doesnt mean its not still going on, hes just not being public anymore about it. He just said whatever happens happens, and he'll be a skin either way.

In Lavar's own words: "I'm not going anywhere."
That was his response when I told him about the fears Skins fans have about this dispute leading to his departure. He wants to be a Redskin for life. He loves the DC area, he loves the fans, and he's quickly falling in love with this coaching staff. Whichever way the contract situation turns out, Lavar will remain a Redskin. I'd go ahead and get that jersey, azskinsfan. |
