Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
Anyone ever notice the negative vibe on Sports Talk 980 towards the Redskins? All of their shows always rip the Redskins even after a win. B. Mitch, Czab and Doc Walker are real hard on the Redskins. Doc Walker kills Gibbs on a lot of stuff. A lot of it is well deserved and good comentary. Today they reported Clark only wanted a 1.5 million signing bonus. Skins only offered him $750k. And to think they gave AA 10 mil. I'm wondering if the negative commentary has to do with Snyder's new radio station?

The truth hurts. This organization has made a lot of player personnel mistakes. It takes guts for local media to call out the local team.

Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
I listen to Sports Talk 980 every day; anyone else who listens please let me know what you think about this evaluation. First,I feel like because Walker and B-Mitch both played for the Redskins when they were good, they get upset when they play like they've been playing, and let the city of DC down. They know how Gibbs used to be and they always talk about how he's changed; I think they get really frustrated when Gibbs doesn't coach like he used to.
Second, I think that Walker and B-Mitch take pride in the fact that they'll say exactly what they're feeling no matter what anyone thinks, and B-Mitch likes to advertise this about himself on his radio show constantly. So, he's sorta portrayed himself as this guy who likes to stir things up, and now he almost over does it. It's like he thinks people are expecting him to saying something outrageous, so now he has to. Third, Czab is just a a synical asshole, but I think he's great. I think it's just his personality to be a pessimist, so when the skins are doin bad, of course he's going to bash them more. Fourth, the only guy who always stays positive about the Skins no matter what is the man himself, Coach Thompson. Any Skins fan can appreciate his show, and if you've never listened before you should, it's on at 3PM everyday. He's hilarious, if a Dallas fan calls in, he immediately cuts them off. |

Did they still rip the Skins after the Carolina game?

Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
You know what, someone still did, but I cannot remember who it was. Actually they didn't really rip them, they just said that they were lucky because A) The hit that Peppers had on Campbell should not have been a penalty and would have resulted in an interception. B) Jake Delhomme played bad. C) We fumbled the ball four times and were lucky that it was not turned over once. I thought it was ridiculous because they call horrible unnecessary roughness or roughing the passer penalties on Taylor all the time, so I thought it was fine that we finally got one back. And, Delhomme played bad because our D-line was up in his grill all day. As for the fumbles, hey, Carolina should do a few more loose ball drills in practice.

Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
It was a bad call on Peppers but the refs are going to call that every time now. Any sort of a perceived hard shot is going to get called.
Yeah the fumbles were a concern and we did get luck there. Delhomme did play bad, but he did face some pretty good pressure which forced him into some bad decisions. |

I'm sure there is some STRONG animosity remaining from the whole Triple X ESPN Radio spawn.

It is very refreshing to hear a critical viewpoint. Obviously we know he isn't 100 percent correct, but it is best to hear pessimistic and optimistic viewpoints and make your own mind from there. Having anything less is nothing less than censorship.

Re: Sports Talk 980 and the Redskins
I can respect a critical view as long as that person also dishes out praise when appropriate. If it's all just critical it gets boring and predictable, same for if it's just all praise.

Only reason I like B.Mitch is because he has some credibility as a former player, and most people are not as critical as him. I get sick of hearing Gibbs talk about how they "fought their guts out" when they got manhandled. At the same time, after the win all I heard from most media sources is how great the Skins were. It was nice to see some people take a more critical approach before we crowned the Skins. such as pointing out those turnovers, penalties, etc.
