Skins sign another CFL player
Cox signs with Skins
Even while he was starring with the Alouettes as a rookie last season, defensive-back Chip Cox always kept the National Football League in his rear-view mirror and vowed he would return. |

Re: Skins sign another CFL player
The one interesting thing about that article is that I now have a name to curse: Lou Riddick, director of pro personnel.

I was JUST thinking the same thing. Maybe Vinny can be happy he's no longer the scapegoat.

He's just one of Vinny's cronies. New Redskins documentary video: The Crony Calls of Riddick!

Clearly a mega-signing.

Re: Skins sign another CFL player
I got about half way through that article and I'm convinced that these people don't actually exist. Chip Cox? Jim Popp? Clint Kent? That sounds like a horse walking down a cobblestone street, these names have to be made up.

Re: Skins sign another CFL player
My general feeling (everyone please note the term "general") about CFL'ers is that they really are smaller and slower than just about any NFL starter.
At the same time, when I watched the Stallions several years ago, I saw some guys who seemed as good as some back up players. I also noted that a couple of the younger players on the Stallions (I can't remember who, but they were all defensive guys) had been in the NFL, gotten cut as undrafted rookies and signed with the CFL, and then gone back to the NFL as solid back-ups and special teamers (actually, as I recall, one became a special teams stand-out with Miami). It may be that with a couple of years seasoning, some of the younger CFL'ers may have an upside and just needed to play at some type of pro-level. It's clear that, whether it's in the Arena League, CFL or NFL Europe, sometimes players just need to play to develop. Who knows, a couple of extra young, fast, hungry players certainly can't hurt the ST.

Re: Skins sign another CFL player
Remember Jesse Lumsden?
It's highly unlikely that any of these CFL guys will make our 53 man roster next season. They most likely represent added competition in camp, but nothing more. They're worth taking a flyer on, because hey you never know if you can unearth a gem. But nobody should get their hopes up on that one. We'll get better players with our 6th and 7th round picks.

Re: Skins sign another CFL player
Also, another point. Adding guys like this can be good for the attitude of your football team. They're young and hungry, and willing to do anything to make a team and make an impression. They're guaranteed to bring their lunchpails every day. So even if they're just around for camp and then gone come September, sometimes their workmanlike attitude can be contagious in training camp.

Re: Skins sign another CFL player
We've also resigned OL Kili Lefotu - the first of our 7th round draft picks from 2006 - to a three year contract.
He was the guy who collapsed in the dorm at Training Camp last year and was put into hospital. |
