Could the Redskins actually be considered stable?
Look at the list of teams that have made coaching changes since Gibbs came back to DC:
Dallas** Detroit Green Bay Minnesota Atlanta** New Orleans^ Arizona** St. Louis SF SD** Oakland (twice)** KC^ Houston Pittsburgh** Cleveland Miami (twice)** Jets^ Buffalo ^Playoff teams with new coach ** New coach in '07 That's a whole lot of turnover in the past couple of years, over half of the league has changed coaches. Only 3 of those teams have made the playoffs with their new coaches so hopefully stability will be a key to success in '07.

Re: Could the Redskins acutally be considered stable?
I would say if we resign Dockery we would have all of our core guys we want back and add a few here and there and we should be set. I like the fact that Snyder and Gibbs did not panic over this past year and hung on to most of our coaching staff. With that said we have not reached free agency yet and who knows what will happen then. Stable right now yes.

Contrary to what the media will lead us to believe when August rolls around, the Skins actually are becoming more stable under Gibbs. |

you will see a whole lot of moving and shaking if the skins don't make the playoffs this year

we are stable, yet unstable in several keys positions (e.g. DE, CB, DT, & LB)

Re: Could the Redskins acutally be considered stable?
I wanted to see if anyone has heard any rumors about the skins hiring Bill Cowher next year? I thought I heard or read this somewhere, the article stated that they would move Gibbs into a front office type position and then hire Cowher to run the team. Being that I live here in Utah redskins news is hard to come by (goodthing for the Internet)!!

"We suspect that, once Joe Gibbs retires as coach of the Redskins, owner Dan Snyder will throw a package worth $10 million a year at Cowher, who figures to be at the top of the list for any team with a vacancy come 2008." Pure speculation

Stability at coaching isn't necessarily a good thing in and of itself.
There was incredible stability between 1994 to 2000 with Norv Turner. But it was still a bad team season after season that ultimately was a complete failure. |

Re: Could the Redskins actually be considered stable?
"Stability" is something to be cherished when your team is 12-4 and went deep into the playoffs if not to the Super Bowl. That was the beauty of the Redskins in the 1980s and early 1990s when Jack Kent Cooke was the guy handing out the outrageously high salaries for assistant coaches and back-up players.
The current "stability" of the coaching staff of a 5-11 team - and one that has made only a cameo appearance in the playoffs this millineum - MIGHT just be due to the fact that other teams don't think many of these coaches/coordinators are worth nearly what they are getting paid now let alone what it would take to pry them away from these cushy contracts. Let me say that more plainly; most of the Skins' coaches aren't nearly as good as they are made out to be and aren't worth nearly what they are getting paid! Please notice that when the Cowboys (a playoff team in 06) and the Chargers (a playoff team in 06) and the Steelers (the Super Bowl champs in 05) went on a coaching search, they interviewed/targeted exactly ZERO coaches out of the 20+ geniuses that are guiding the Redskins' team. Obviously, those teams that did better than the Skins in the past several years must be taking pity on the Redskins and leaving them with this exquisite cadre of coaching talent. Otherwise they might have thought to at least interview one of these sterling individuals...

Re: Could the Redskins actually be considered stable?
stability isn't as important as being good :/.
fisher is worth all the money in the world. bill B wouldn't be bad. cowher is clearly beneath them, but he's better than a lot of other choices. |

Re: Could the Redskins actually be considered stable?
a complete overhaul of the teams players year in and year out does not translate into stability...

$10 Million a year?!! Lombardi himself would rise from the grave for that kind of money. If that happens, Cowher would be here in a flash.
