Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
Is anyone else worried about the fact that Chris Cooley hasn't been extended yet?
I'm sorry, but seeing our weakened position at LG, and seeing the impact that Cooley is having in pre-season already, makes me wonder why we haven't extended Cooley yet. I mention LG because I think had we extended Dock before last season we would have been in a much better position than we currently find ourselves in. We did a great job extending Betts and Sellers. I wonder if Cooley's agent simply isn't negotiating because he is expecting a big season from Cools? What do you guys think? |

I think that the FO will do the right thing and make sure that Cooley is on this team for a long time...

I am worried if he hits the open market. Prices just keep going up and I worry we won't be able to pay him if he doesn't sign during the season or earlier.

I think we can pretty much bet on Cooley getting an extension. Ditto Taylor.

I don't think Taylor is a pending FA.
I'm freaked out about Cooley. I think his number is just going to go up every game a bit more - Are they really going to break the bank to keep him by the end of the season? |

I think the deal will get done. I just would like them to hurry the hell up. The longer they wait....the more he's gonna cost.
He's gonna kick MAJOR ASS this season, Saturday was just a sample.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
Well, we waited til the end of the season for Betts, might as well wait for Cooley too.
Who knows, maybe Cooley has been offered a contract but would rather test the FA market? Why do you instantly assume it's the FO? ps- He IS still under contract, so waiting as long as possible is a good thing, as long as Cooley doesn't get pissed over it.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
if we get past the season and he's not signed before free agency I will be mad. We've seen it happen so many times in the past, Antonio Pierce, Fred Smoot, Ryan Clark (well, I think the only reason we didn't resign him was because we wanted Archuleta all along), and lately Derrick Dockery. I do not want to see Cooley or Taylor hit the open market, mainly because both would def. be hot commodities, and there's no way we could compete with some teams out there that have plenty of cap space.

The guy is a stud. Get it done and do it soon. He is young, capable, and one of few that you can bank on...go ahead...break the bank!

I think it just might happen during the season at some point, but what's the rush? He's not going anywhere right now.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
Typically, when a player is in his last year of a deal, there will be grumblings of "Let's see if I'm wanted here - it's in their hands." This is to spur talks where none exist.
We've heard nothing from Cooley about an unwillingness to negotiate, so I would presume that negotiations are either ongoing or soon-to-be.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
We were saying what's the rush with Dockery last year but as the year went on there was no news with him and we all know how that turned out. I just want to see him locked up before his price keeps going up. It'll be a lot easier to sign him right now rather than wait after the season, because if he has an awesome season he'll want more money at the end.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
I am not assuming FA - I'm just throwing the question out there.
Do you really think it is wise to wait, even if he is under contract? It just seems like the longer we will wait, the more he is going to cost. Quote:

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
Cooley has said that both sides were talking but he was leaving it up to his agent to work everything out. Perhaps it's Cooley's side that wants to wait... especially after seeing how insane the market was this year. Let's not be so quick to decide that it's the front office to blame, there are two parties to every negotiation.
