Redskins Sign Fred Beasley

The Redskins have reportedly signed former FA FB Fred Beasley. Fred Beasley was a Pro Bowl FB for the 49ers before sitting out the 2006 season. It is unclear whom the Redskins cut to make way for Beasley.

Re: Redskins Sign Fred Beasley

RB Dee Brown might have been the one let go to make room for him.

Re: Redskins Sign Fred Beasley

I would think they probably cut that rookie FB Pete Schmitt. Anyone know why Beasley sat out '06??

I think I recall people thinking that he went downhill fast after hitting 30.

I'd love to hear what the thinking was behind the signing. If he's been out of football since '05 and hasn't drawn a lick of interest from another team, and we already have 2 FB's on the roster, why sign this guy?? Anyone have a guess?

Well we really have one FB in Big Mike and then you have Schmitt, which is probually on his way out the back door.

FB could very well solidify good depth at FB for us, and if I had to guess not cost much.

Buuuuuut, if he's so strong in that department how come he hasn't been on an NFL roster since '05?

You beat me to it. I know its way in the past but still think its funny. I wonder if there is still any bad blood. Here is some of his stats from an '06 article when the fins picked him up:
Updated: March 27, 2006, 11:37 PM ET
MIAMI -- The Miami Dolphins signed fullback Fred Beasley to a one-year contract Monday.

Beasley had spent his eight-year career with the San Francisco 49ers, serving as the lead blocker for three different 1,000-yard rushers.

He has appeared in 114 regular-season games, including 82 starts. Beasley has rushed for 610 yards and eight touchdowns on 183 carries, and caught 133 passes for 1,017 yards and five touchdowns.

A sixth-round draft choice in 1998, Beasley became a full-time starter for the 49ers in 1999. Over the next five seasons, he led the way for Charlie Garner (1999, 2000), Garrison Hearst (2001) and Kevan Barlow (2003) to rush for 1,000 yards.

Wow Lloyd sure took the high road on that one. Maybe Beasly can get him to catch some more 39 yard TD's for the Skins.

Re: Redskins Sign Fred Beasley

Beasley was on the Dolphins last year, but got cut before the regular season. I'm pretty sure he was healthy, he just sucks.
