Even more interesting, the 4-string has half as many strings as the 8-string, twice as many as the 2-string. It's been a long, long day...

Re: bass guitar question????
Although Im a drummer and not a bass player, I have been around plenty of bass players in my time. I will say that if you are gonna just rock out, 4 string is all you need, its the standard. If you go beyond that you better make sure you know how to use all of them, and use them well. Most of the bass players I worked with or knew or just saw them play somewhere who had more than 4 strings, completely kicked much ass. Usually they were schooled or naturally gifted musicians playing jazz, funk or very technical hard rock/metal. But you can kick all the ass you need to with 4 strings.

Re: bass guitar question????
Speaking of rocking out - My son Marc and his band Sorfingr are playing this Sunday at an Exposure concert for the 9:30 Club. Marc plays electric guitar. I'm so excited!! They are only 14, but they sure do sound great!

I have only played in bands with a 4 string bass player. I'm a drummer.
