Matt Bowen
Can someone going to the game tonight keep an eye on Matt Bowen's play and let me know how he played?
Mr Bowen had a terrible game against Denver and he is beginning to worry me. He was very slow to read and react to plays, and was always several steps behind the play. His tackling was terrible and he missed a couple of gap assignments. For a strong safety that is not good. I will be curious how Mr. Bowen and his competition do against Stephen Davis. Seeing that Sean Taylor is all set at Free Safety, we need someone to step up and be a good compliment to Sean at Strong Safety. Since I live in Houston I can not see the game tonight. |

Will do. I'll report on it tonight, that is, if JoeCrisp doesn't make it out to the game. I have a feeling his reports would be much better...

Its really good we got Taylor. Cooley looked good tonight, and our safeties give up a lot of plays. Taylor will help make our d so much better because our front 7 can do more risky blitzing knowing hes back there.

I'm honestly starting to see the chance of Lott starting at strong safety and Taylor at FS unless bowen picks it up in the next 3 games and practices even though he didn't play that bad last night. it's just that lott played pretty solid from what I saw and evidently the coaches r real high on him.

i also think lott is making a good showing, and Bowen is flat out bad right now. Im also impressed with some of our backup d lineman. Greg White and Ron Warner come to mind,

Bowen looked terrible.
1) Missed interception, easy play 2) Got beat inside for a couple of big completions, just looked like he flat out misread the play 3) Poor run coverage, Sean Taylor looked way better I feel like he is turning into the weak link on our first team defense. |

At this point I think everyone knows taylor is the best safety we have, its matter of who lines up next to him that we have to worry about

Nothing about Bowen stood out -- except for the easy INT that bounced right out of his hands.
So far, he's looked like he did last year -- either stinking it up, or nonexistant. I'm not impressed. |

Thank you guys for confirming my concern about Bowen's very unimpressive play. This guy is a veteran. He played a couple of years in Green Bay, he should not be playing like a rookie. All this talk about how great it is that Sean Taylor has to earn his starting position, the same needs to apply to Bowen. I don't care if he is a veteran or that he has a big contract. If he does not play well, he needs to sit on the bench or get released. We should be paying a guy big money if he is not performing at least reasonably well.
I think it is time for the coaches to try some other combinations at the safety positions with the first team defense. Just to see how it looks. |
