The Most Influential Player In Jason Campbell's Career

Not sure if you all have seen JC's visit with that cute little 2nd grader, hosted by Mike Wise on Redskins Insider. Pretty cool stuff. When Campbell was asked who the most influential player is in his career, his answer: Mark Brunell. While it's really not surprising, I still said an out loud "wow" when I heard it. Brunell has been a polarizing figure on this site to say the least, so I figured it was worth a discussion.

Re: The Most Influential Player In Jason Campbell's Career

As much as I'm impressed with J.C. as a quarterback, I'm equally impressed with him as a human being. This is one solid guy. I liked Brunell as a person but I thought his skills had diminished as a quarterback by the time we got him. I will always be grateful to him for the 2 T.D.'s to Santana in the Dallas game and for the time he spent with Jason and the influence he had on him. I don't always agree with Wise, but he is one of my favorite reporters. Thanks for the vid GMScud, the more I learn about J.C. the more I respect him. I'm very happy he's our Q.B. We're in good hands.

he seems like a good man, which i'm sure makes his parents more proud than his football career ever will.i always thought that being the son of a coach, that helped campbell on the road to the nfl too.i feel the same way about landry cause his father coached him until he got in high school.

We SO have to get him signed to an extension. This guy is our QB 'til death in my book.

Brunell never got a fair shake here for whatever reason, but I don't think it's even worth going into anymore, it's the ultimate dead horse. But from all accounts he's a great guy and a great teammate so I'm really not surprised that JC looks up to him.

I just think for as much sh*t as Brunell got around here (some of which was deserved), it's nice to know he had this kind of intangible impact on perhaps our most important player.

His rookie 5 year contract will run up soon. Jason La Canfora expects the Redskins to approach Jason about a contract extention within the next 4-6 weeks.

I agree, I think we need to sign him for a long ride. He has shown great potential, and could really become a stud of a QB.

Not surprising. Brunell was a vet and was able to help Campbell in his maturation.

I am amazed that anyone would think MB didnt get a fair shake. MB wouldnt have been on the roster of 95% of the teams and yet he was the starter for the Skins. MB got more than a fair shake.

MB did have lots of good experience and knowledge and it says a lot about him that he was willing to share that to help JC become better.

With fair shake I'm talking about the amount of shit he got from the fans and local media. Sorry, I don't think he was treated fairly. He was the scape goat from the very beginning, and even when the team won he wasn't given enough credit.

Brunell is a class act. Always has been and always will be. He was treated very unfairly by a lot of the fans here. With that being said he was on the field longer than he should've been and that was on Gibbs.

He also had 23 TDs and only 10 INTs and led us to a playoff berth in 05.
Hard to say he wouldn't have been on 95% of NFL rosters that year.
