Valentines Day Plans
The purpose of this thread is to give guys a heads up and possibly help generate ideas for the guys who might be behind the power curve.
Earlier today I attempted to get reservations at the Melting Pot and they were already booked for the whole weekend (Friday- Sunday). Several places are already booked. I managed to get reservations for Friday night at Addies in Rockville and there were 2 spots left for Friday evening, but I am not sure about Saturday or Sunday. Guys you might want to act quickly and help each other out. |

Re: Valentines Day Plans
I agree, it's a bullshit marketing holiday which raises expectations and expenses.
Luckily I am single right now, so I will enjoy my free life for perhaps another year.

Re: Valentines Day Plans
I agree I hate the Hallmark hollidays and its seems they keep coming up with new ones. I did buy my wife some flowers from Proflowers which you buy on line and they send them directly to the house. My wife does not care for roses but she will be surprised to get the flowers because we usually do not do anything for valentines day other than cooking a good meal and exchanging cards.

Re: Valentines Day Plans
Reservations at Aberdeen Barn on Sat. It's a sentimental place for us. I'm fortunate too my wife isn't into the whole flowers, chocolates, jewelry thing.

Re: Valentines Day Plans
We took my friends dad fishing one night and it was very rough out in the bay. He said if we would just turn the boat around and head in he would buy dinner at the Aberdeen. Good steak but not the best but I would go back. Me and my wife had a tradition going to George & Steves in Suffolk which we started one Val when we both had to work late. They sold the place and now its another Rite Aid.

Re: Valentines Day Plans
I'm going to the American U vs UMD wrestling match with my dad. Not your Hallmark Valentines Day, but my cousin wrestles for AU and he's actually ranked somewhere in the top 5 in the nation in his weight class so it'll be a good time.

Re: Valentines Day Plans
I'm fortunate that the wife doesn't care for Valentines Day either...so I'll get her some flowers and a card at the store tomorrow night, and will most likely make her dinner at home Saturday night, youngsters in tow. I've always seen this "holiday" as a dating holiday, not a married holiday.
But Angry does have a good point...if you haven't made reservations by now, you pray that you get some last minute cancellations. Or do off nights (tonight, Sunday) to ensure you get the place you want...

Re: Valentines Day Plans
I find it hard to believe that there are so many guys out there who clam that their women are no into Valentines Day.
In reality there are only 2 types of women who do not like V-Day 1. Lying women 2. Tranny's (because they are actually dudes) There are also several women who have been hurt before so they claim to not like the holiday. In reality they just hate the man that hurt them and would actually be open to the idea of Romance on V-Day. She may not be into flowers or candy, but you best do something for her because she does care. Last edited by KLHJ2; 02-12-2009 at 04:29 PM. |

Re: Valentines Day Plans
My girlfriend and I are cooking dinner at the house tomorrow- I've got an amazing pork tenderloin sitting in a peppercorn marinade- and then going out to have drinks tomorrow night.
She and I both agree that V-Day is a BS Hallmark Holiday, which is why we're not going out to some fancy restaurant and fighting the crowds. A few adult beverages is fine with me. Plus I've got to watch the wallet- our anniversary is March 16th, and I'm doing it up big- engagement ring style.

Re: Valentines Day Plans
For those guys still looking for great gifts -- Vermont Teddy Bears seem to go over well, and cost about the same as flowers. I've bought a few for previous girlfriends and they all loved them.

Re: Valentines Day Plans
I definitely will. It's been a long time coming. I almost popped the question about 2 years ago... A lot has happened (for the better mostly), and it's time. I'm really excited about it.
