Optimistic View
You have to admire Gibbs' stubborn dedication towards Brunell. I do, even though I would prefer he yank Brunell and give Ramsey a shot while we're still not mathematically elimated from the playoffs. But, it appears that everyone (but Gibbs) sees Brunell as mostly ineffective. Yes, it's not all his fault, but there's just been too many overthrown/underthrown passes. In any case, I do think Gibbs will turn it around. Here's how I see the rest of our season:
Nov. 7 @Detroit - Skins lose (2-6)(Detroit's angry about loss to Dallas) Nov. 14 Cincinnati - Skins win (3-6)(even we can beat the Bungals. Hmmm, didn't I say the same about Cleveland) Nov. 21 @Philadelphia - Skins lose (3-7)(probably out of playoffs) Nov. 28 @Pittsburgh - skins lose (3-8)(Ramsey's first start, but Steeler's defense too tough for QB with few prior snaps this year) Dec. 5 NY Giants - skins win (4-8)(Ramsey goes vertical!) Dec. 12 Philadelphia - skins lose (4-9)(Phily too much) Dec. 18 @San Francisco - Skins win (5-8)(Ramsey shines) Dec. 26 @Dallas - Skins win (6-9)(Ramsey beat them before) Jan. 2 Minnesota - skins win (7-9)(3 game win streak: Hmmm, why didn't we make the switch earlier?) "Knock him down. He doesn't want to get hit. The plan -- and you can see other teams doing the same thing on film -- is to not let him set his feet. Make him roll out. Hit him enough, and sooner or later it'll mess up his accuracy. He's not the same quarterback he used to be. Look, I played against him in Jacksonville, and he was a very, very accurate passer. But in the pocket now, his passes sail. He has to roll out now; maybe he sees his receivers better. I don't know if he's as comfortable in this offense or what. But he's not the same quarterback." Packers safety Darren Sharper. |

Fair assessment, but what about us beating the Lions because we're angry about the loss to Green Bay?

well some QBs feast on the blitz. they are either more mobile than Brunell, or quick enough to read and throw ACCURATELY enough to get it to an open safety valve.

"Make him roll out" is interesting because this article gives the impression that it's the Redskins plan to have Brunell out of the pocket, not the opponents'.

Try this on for size. Gibbs decides to see the light and go with Ramsey. Ramsey starts and while not a superstar gives the minor spark needed to let the offense take off. Ramsey hits on multiple deep passes and intermediate routes. Teams no longer able to stack the box drop back. Portis gets the ball and runs all over the defense. Teams not wanting to get run all over bring a safety into the box. Ramsey goes playaction and hits a deep pass for a TD.
This is all theoritical, but its clear to me and everybody else that Brunnel isn't the future. We should let Ramsey a shot, if he fully knows the offense. |

ugh, i give up. give Brunell ONE MORE HALF. if he misses another open receiver, try Ramsey, nothing to lose now, lets get Ramsey's bad habits out this season.
whatever you guys say about Brunell, he hasn't thrown a ball directly to an opposing defender. you've been spoiled and forgotten how often that happened with Ramsey.. |

You guys, it's obvious were' going to wind up going 11 - 5. The Eagles are running out of steam, we will beat Dallas, will beat NY Giants, we will beat the Lions this week because we can, Bengals, 49ers, Steelers' rookie QB will stumble against our defense, and the iffy game we might pull out will be against Minnesota.
