He deserves it, unless Kurt Warner played the whole season and did the same thing. But how is he the comeback player of the year, what did he come back to?

Definitely a player who deserved it.

As much as I like Brees. My vote would go to Jerome Bettis. The man flat out had one of his best years with 13 TD's. He took his limited role and when Duce got hurt the wheels on the bus never stopped rolling. But I see where Brees got it.

Bettis is a good pick. Brees played great. I remember people saying how horrible he was last year. Funny how things change!
That being said, I'd trade him in a second if I were SD. His value is high right now. Toss the tag on and shop him. Career season for him. |

Yeah Bettis has done a pretty good job this year and has appeared to look like the Bettis of old! Brees certainly ranks up there though.

Brees should have got it but McGahee shouldn;t have been far behind. Look what the Bills have done with him as the starter.

I know I'm a homer. But what about Shawn Springs? :cool-smil
But really I think the Bus should get it over Brees!! I mean come on. I must of frogotten but isn't this Drew's frist really good year? What great season has he had to come back from? The Bus and Springs where anual pro bowlers a few years back. They would have a least fit the award. Isn't that why it's called "comeback player of the year"?

Brees had a solid rookie season. He suffered the normal sophmore slump.

ha, yeah, brunell def. must have been considered,
but springs ( 5 interceptions , 6 sacks) was a legit candidate, then again, its a 6-10 team, we dont get too much recognition with that record.

Brees came back from oblivion...you can make an argument for Shawn Springs, as well as Corey Dillon (as stated by Boomer Esaison this AM on Elliot in the Morning) and Willis McGahee, since both of these RBs came back from injuries. i wouldn't agree with bettis, numbers below show that his numbers are up but not a vast improvement
Brees 03 numbers: 205-356 (57%), 2108 yds, 11 TDs, 15 INTs 04 numbers: 262-400 (65%), 3159 yds, 27 TDs, 7 INTs Bettis 03 numbers: 246 car, 811 yds, 3.3 ypc, 7 TDs, 5 fumbles 04 numbers: 250 car, 941 yds, 3.8 ypc, 13 TDs, 1 fumble Springs 03 numbers: 43 total tackles, 37 solo, 1.5 sacks, 1 INT, 10 Passes deflected 04 numbers: 64 total tackles, 52 solo, 6 sacks, 5 INTs, 7 Passes Deflected, 1 Forced Fumble Dillon 03 numbers: 138 car, 541 yds, 3.9 ypc, 2 TDs 04 numbers: 345 car, 1635 yds (3rd in NFL) , 4.7 ypc, 13 TDs (1 receiving), 5 fumbles McGahee 03 numbers: injured 04 numbers: 284 car, 1128 yds, 4.0 ypc, 13 TDs, 4 fumbles

I'd be tempted to vote for Corey Dillon except that his vast improvement has something to do with playing for the Patriots this year as opposed to not playing much for the Bengals last year.
If I had a vote, it would be Drew Brees
