Free Agency
I was wondering what you guys think if the redskins would pursue john abraham in free agency. I know you guys probably think we could use the draft for a pass rusher but abraham is a proven veteran. I think we could afford if we sign him to a long contract which could turn into cap friendly. I also think we should let samuels go and sign walter jones if he becomes available. I also think we should try to pursue kevin mawae of the jets to be our starting center and there you have it. Re-sign pierce or go after charles woodson and let smoot( i want top 5 cb money). You all probably think that we shouldn't sign him. I will tell you why it would work. With our blitzing packages and you know charles loves to gamble on things like arrington but has good overall sense of the game. He has speed, size(much bigger than smoot), height(6'1) and smoot (5'11'') and he is a veteran. He can tackle much better than smoot. With this roster moves we would be able to compete for the championship. Let me know what you guys think.

i dont think we should be spending money on high profile veterans, we need to build with younger players, because we cant continue to lock up our cap with high priced players, plus injuries as well as decline to age comes into play.. imo.

i highly doubt that samuels is going anywhere. gibbs said samuels is a priority, and getting his deal done is big, which he seems willing to do

If we go FA we need more Marcus Washington's. Young, rising stars. We can get them for a good price and have them for years to come.
Get a new center - leave the rest of the O line in tact! Continuity. |

i dont think we should overhaul our team that much. walter jones will be super expensive, and so would woodson.

i don't see woodson being that much more than what smoot is asking for. I know that walter jones will be expensive but did you see what the guy did yesterday in their playoff game. he was laying the dl out one by one. samuels can't do that. the offense will be better than next year that's why i said get jones from sea and mawae from the jets. i think that wood is much more physical than smoot and again he can tackle better. i think that we can also use our ninth pick on williams or edwards to improve our wr corp. let go of gardner and mccants. i think someone like john abraham can do so much more than what a rookie can do. we have all the ingredients on defense to make a major push for the playoffs next year. i believe that synder can make those contracts longer and make their money stretch over the years so that it won't hurt the cap by that much. we need to get rid of the dead weight like barrow, brunell, and noble, friedman, and morton. we should have enough to sign woods, abraham, jones and mawae. we got to do something because if we don't the cowboys will beat us to do. me personally i would not like to play against those guys.

I don't us having enough money to go after alot of big names. I would rather see us go after some youth or lesser know people with big upside like Marcus Washington was.

I'm tired of seeing 'The Daniel' go out and wave his big bucks around every Spring to sign the 'best talent' in the NFL to gawd-awful multi-million dollar contracts that will eventually catch up with us and develop this team into the east coast version of the niners. IMHO, we need a solid center, nothing all-pro, just a good solid player that can handle the position. A good pass rushing DE would probably take our D to the next level, and all other things being equal, probably make us #1 in the league.

I'm very curious as to why people pin free agent signings on Snyder. It's not like unbeknown to his coaches he went out and got Coles, Thomas, Morton, Hall, Washington, Springs, Brunell, Griffen, Daniels, Barrow, Portis, Candidate. The coaches ask for either specefic players or specefic needs, and as far as I'm concerned as an owner he goes out and gets those players. The coaches are the ones going on a shopping spree, not Snyder. Until I actually see a negative effect from the cap, I'm not buying that Snyder can't work the cap. From what I've seen he's spent more money and worked the cap well enough that we haven't been burned by it yet. Until we are burned, Snyder can handle that and seems to be a master.
He learned his lesson from George, Deion, Smith, etc. He's not running out and grabbing big names. He's grabbing people the COACHES want. Want to blame someone for the shopping sprees? Blame Marty, Spurrier, and Gibbs. |

Perhaps then they should come up with an alternative to the Lombardi trophy so that we can at least walk away with something each year for mastering the salary cap game? I'd be curious to know the salary structure of teams like New England, Philadelphia, and Indianapolis. How much do they spend and where do they spend it? Why is it that we can go out every year and buy more and more marquis players and still not have a playoff bound team? You said it yourself, Daseal, Snyder went out and got Coles, Thomas, Morton, etc. You can count the # of Colts that have been to the pro-bowl on one hand, while you can go down the skins roster and it wouldn't surprise me if 1/4 have been to the pro-bowl at one time or another. Problem is most of the Redskins roster hasn't been around long enough to develop under one group of coaches and one system of play.

Hey, you changed gears. Did I say it brought success? Never did I say that. You're just unfairly blaming Snyder for our woes. Blame the coaches that want all this new talent.
Just wait for the Colts. They're going to be fielding a three man team soon. |
