Coach Williams and Sean Taylor

Just wondering if anyone else listened to the "60 Seconds" interview with Coach Williams on Redskins.com. When asked who his favorite professional athlete is he smiled and instantly said "Sean Taylor." Then, in the "Tazmanian Devil/Grim Reaper" article someone posted a few days ago, Coach Williams was glowing in his appraisal of Taylor's professionalism while at work. I know this topic was brought up in the Pacman jones thread, but I thought it deserved its own thread.

I understand that Sean Taylor has been a "MEATHEAD" off the field (holla SC), but these comments by Coach Williams have gone a long way in quelling any concerns I had about Taylor bringing the problems to work.

Also, anytime a coach says one of his current players is his favorite professional athlete you know he is schemeing all kinds of blitz packages to feature him. If Taylor doesn't have a great year it won't be for lack of opportunities. It would have been a lot easier for Williams to say his favorite athlete is "Marcus Washington" or "Sean Springs," both amazing athletes and team players. It could also be that part of it is to boost Taylor's morale, but somehow I doubt that.

Didn't see the interview. but I agree with your assessment. I think it runs counter to the notion that Taylor isn't very coachable. After all, his coach seems to like him just fine.

I love those 60 seconds w/ a Redskin clips. Very interesting.

Also notice that when asked what the biggest challenge facing kids today, Williams responded 'decision making'. Ahem, Sean Taylor.

Taylor has the potential to completely revolutionize the safety position much like what LT did for the LB position.

I can't wait to see him this season.

Cooley, you beat me to the punch. I posted a comment on the PacMan thread, then I happen to go over to Redskins.com and listen to GW's comment on ST. Man, this speaks volumes about how he feels about this kid! But like I said on the other thread, I think he's also impressed with Taylor as an individual and not just an athlete. It was so funny how Larry Michaels barely finished the sentence and Gregg Williams said Taylor was his favorite athlete!!
You were right on, how come he mentions Taylor above let's say Washington or Springs or even C.Griff??

I liken Taylor at his position to what LT meant to his also!

What's also interesting is that during the Cincy game I saw Taylor calling, what seemed to be audibles, and directing players some after the defense was in formation. Signs of him becoming more comfortable.

I think Sean Taylor's knock hasn't really been coachability, he has been raved about by everybody from college to the pro's. I think its his maturity level, and decisions he makes mostly off the field.

If this guy can focus himself on playing at the highest level he will become the best player in football I think. He is arguably one of the top 5 or so athletes in the game. He reminds me so much of Arrington in terms of his mix of size athleticism and skill. Arrington has been a good ball player but something has kept him from getting to that next level... The Ray Lewis level. Maybe it is his tendency to free wheel it and maybe it has been circumstance but hopefully Taylor will be able to follow the path of Lewis (on the field only please) and not Lavar. I love Lavar but he has not reached his super high potential. Maybe this year he will.

I think overall Taylor is a real good guy. I just think he is easily influenced by people around him. When he's on the field and at practice, he's a wonderful team player who works hard because everyone around him works hard. Coach Williams pushes him to be the best and Sean responds to it. And deep down, Sean likes being around that.

It's just that during the offseason he was surrounded by a different set of people. I think they influence him and his decision making just like his teammates do.

Plus Taylor is a pretty quiet guy off the field. I feel like he just has a follower's personality at this point in his life, easily influenced. Many young people are like that. I think he'll grow into himself and soon become his own man. I think Gregg Williams is trying so hard to get him to stick around next offseason because he knows that when put in the right situation, Sean Taylor is the model citizen.

This whole thing just goes to show that offseason drama (largely perpetuated by the media) often has little to do with on-field performance. Except in the case of TO, hopefully!
