Superdome Evacuation Suspended
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2148638
apparantly it's suspended because they were trying to get injured people out of there and somebody shot at them and a medical helicopter trying to land. That totally sucks, there isn't enough control that they are shooting down choppers trying to help people.

Man...
I heard someone on the news this morning say: Tragedy sometimes brings out the best in people, but sometimes it brings out the worst. So true. |

Re: Superdome Evacuation Suspended
It IS just like the movie "Mad Max". That is exactly what I have been thinking the past few days as the looting gets worse and people are fighting over fuel and everything else. Wasn't fuel the thing everyone needed in "Mad Max"? The movie depicted a post-Apocalyptic world where roving bands of outlaws attacked at will. The police were helpless to stop them. Truth is stranger than fiction.

Re: Superdome Evacuation Suspended
Its a shame that we show such restrain with such thugs. I have no problem with the people who need food and water going in and taking what they need. They should take note of what they take and come back at some point and pay. These men and ladies who just go out and steel what they can because their is no one to stop them should be delt with, with force. You take down a few and the others would take notice and stop what they are doing. I saw one guy interviewed who said if it was wrong than there should be police there to stop them. So we know what that guy thinks about living as a comunity and a sense of law. He has none.

Re: Superdome Evacuation Suspended
I was watching Fox news around 12:30 thursday and I think it was Shepard Smith who was reporting near the Superdome and showed footage of an old dead guy just laying on the side of the road of insterstate 10. Its really crazy watching these horrible pictures of people without food, water, shelter, etc. People shooting at helicopters? Whats that about? Can you imagine being cooped up inside the Superdome for 3 days with barely any food, no electricity, no air conditioning, no showers, and with 50,000 people? I think there comes a time when people just freak out. I cannot imagine how it is there at all. and its utterly amazing to watch on tv.

Re: Superdome Evacuation Suspended
The thing about the bodies and the people looting is that everyone there is trying to keep people alive. They really don't have the time to deal with that. They can't worry about bodies because if they do, other people are going to die. They need more help down there. They need to be able to save people, stop the looting and make arrangements for the dead, but that's just not possible because there is so much devastation.

Martial law will be declared as soon as the people are in place. Right now, the logistics are unbelievably bad...
What an incredible mess.

Re: Superdome Evacuation Suspended
shooting them would be cheaper than rescueing them any. they are stealing valuable goods that some one owns after the flood they could go back to their footlocker and sell those shoes for some money. Once they come back from wherever they are. I am sure the oil companies and store owners are gonna donate that stuff to the community anyway and donate the little bit of insurance money they receive to the relief efforts. I mean how babaric of those thugs how dare they not follow the law, where ever the city officials are right now?

Hopefully the insurance agencies won't be trying to worm their way out of paying for all of the damage and theft.

Re: Superdome Evacuation Suspended
So sad to see the demise of a beautiful city. I have been fortunate to have visited this city at its prime, and I feel so disheartened seeing some of the memorable sites on television in destruction. My heart goes out to the stranded victims of New Orleans. I also can't help but shake my head hearing and watching the taped footage of looting, fires being started and shooting at the very people trying to help them out. Havent these people heard the old attage you dont bit the hand that feeds you? I would only hope that these people try to realize the enormous obsticles our nations military, the Red Cross, FEMA and its volunteers are facing just trying to get to this disaster site. Now I am hearing about Race being an issue for the delay in aid. I was wondering just last night how long before the race card gets pulled out. Yes, these are mostly black poor people that are suffering through this. Yes, I understand the means for them to be able to flee were a huge, if not, the only factor they had. How can you not think that race is an issue when you see nothing but black people on the televison footage? I hope that people stop and think for a minute before jumping to any conclusions. New Orleans is a city that is predominately black to begin with, sadly a good number of them live below the poverty line. I cant even begin to understand the desperate measures that these people are facing, and I cant blame these people for breaking into buildings and stealing food and water, diapers, formula and so on. I saw a older couple pushing a shopping card through 2 feet of water with a huge TV! What in the heck are you going to do with a TV without any power? Keep this up and the government will be forced to enact Marshall Law. I am sure that the living situtations in the Super Dome are just terrible...as bad as that is I think these people need to thank god that they are still alive.
