Is Carlos Rogers overrated?
Its what, week 10, and our 1st round pick hasn't done enough to replace Walt Harris as the starting corner. Is anyone else worried about this? I mean, I know Champ was a higher pick, but he started almost immediately. Shouldn't Rogers be contributing to this team by now? In light of the fact that Priouleau (I never spell that right) and Harris were getting burned like a dime bag at a Grateful Dead Concert, isn't now the time when our No. 1 pick steps up? So far, he's done nothing to justify such a high pick and Ive been really disappointed with his lack of development.

Re: Is Carlos Rogers overrated?
the league is tougher that when champ entered and he got the tutledge of D.Green and Deon Sanders...We should hire Darrell as a consultant for the young corners

Re: Is Carlos Rogers overrated?
Still way too early to say if Rogers is overrated or not.
He's a rook and Williams and this entire staff is reluctant to toss a rookie in to the fire when there is a quality vet ahead of him. |

Re: Is Carlos Rogers overrated?
I didn't know that Rogers was 'rated' to be overrated. I put a whole lot more on Walt Harris' shoulders than Rogers. Harris got beat for 2 TD, I only saw Rogers get beat for one deep ball..

Re: Is Carlos Rogers overrated?
Walt Harris, I knew he was gonna be a problem and he is. we need Carlos to step up. I think this game is a wake up call and I expect Carlos to start next week.

Re: Is Carlos Rogers overrated?
Its a little to early to say Rogers is overrated. The kid isn't starting to begin with. To compare him and champ really isn't fair to him either. Champ coming in as a rookie was better than most DBs in the league to begin with. Champ is a once in while corner to be that good early. Carlos will be a fine corner once he learns the position. He is going to get beat as all corners do. What I find unacceptable is the way Harris and Proelue(however its spelled) played. They are veterans, they should know what to do late in a game. And to let a scrub in Shepherd get past you, not once but twice on the same drive is unacceptable. I dont know that benching Harris is the answer, but Proelue definately needs to be benched. He is to help the corners over the top and he was repeatibly late and in some cases no where near the play, especially the last touchdown. He was going towards the line of scrimmage!! Taylor being out hurt ALOT. I hope he is back next week with Moss and Porter coming to town or its going to be a long day again. We have to find a way to get pressure on the QB. Week in a week out we are sending 7 to 8 guys and getting no results. We will get picked apart if that trend continues. I dont know what has to happen to get pressure, but the players we have in there right now are not getting it done. LaVar missed 3 sack opportunities yesterday by a matter of microseconds. Daniels , Wynn, Evans and co. have to step up the rush. Marcus, Lavar and Marshall can not be counted on every week to get to the QB. And lets throw out the corner blitz, we get burned everytime Springs rushes. Why is he blitzing anyway, he is out best cover guy. If you are blitzing a corner, bring carlos, or bowen they are a little more physical in trying to get past RB in backfield.

Re: Is Carlos Rogers overrated?
Plus, its not as if Rolle, Jones, or even Mike Williams are tearing it up in their rookie years either, and it was alock we'd end up with one of them. I still feel like Rogers is probably the best out of the three CB's. Williams might still be a good player but he has major discipline problems. People can say we should have taken Demarcus Ware but its not like anybody was advocating that at the time, or that that was ever a realistic scenario with the ninth pick.

Rogers will be fine. Pac Man on the other hand is over rated.

Re: Is Carlos Rogers overrated?
watching harris getting torched the last couple of weeks leaves me wondering why rogers isnt in the mix more.then yesterday rogers comes in and gets burned right away.the pressure corner g williams has these guys playing relies on getting to the quarterback, which we all know isnt happening

Re: Is Carlos Rogers overrated?
Way too early to tell with Rogers.
But I thought (and this is surely stating the obvious) that the pass D was very badly exposed yesterday, top to bottom. Lack of a consistent pass rush from your down four leads to a need to blitz, which leaves you in single coverage. And most NFL recievers are going to beat man-to-man a fairly high percentage of the time. The injury to Taylor was a big blow in that department as well. I'm all for aggressive D, but leaving your corners out on an island late is sometimes a recipe for disaster. But that's the sort of D we have right now. But it wasn't a particularly bad strategy--Simms had thrown picks when pressured, so applying pressure was a smart call. The bucs didn't blitz much and we killed them with the run and the short/intermediate pass. So, as Gibbs said last week, it's a chess match. And then it's about execution--our DBs and blitz didn't get it done, Simms and co did.
