I am in the Landon Collins boat. We need our own Earl Thomas leading the secondary and he can be that type of player.

Collins has outstanding athleticism and range no doubt about it, but I just don't see him coming close to becoming an Earl Thomas type of player. It's a position I also don't believe is worthy of a top 5 pick unless it's a can't miss ball hawking prospect ah-la Sean Taylor, Eric Berry or even ET and Collins, for all his qualities isn't that. I'm keeping an eye on Derron Smith out of Fresno State. He'll likely be available from round 2 on, although I expect him to put up some tidy numbers at the combine. Maybe even pair him with someone like Da'Norris Searcy in FA.

I've personally flip-flopped then between offensive and defensive line myself. Ronnie Stanley (Notre Dame) is shooting up boards and could be this years Greg Robinson. He'd instantly provide us with a bookend tackle on the right side, with the ability to slide over to the left if necessary. TJ Clemmings out of Pittsburgh is another who despite his lack of experience (converted defensive end) has fantastic tools. Could also play some guard. They'd be two in particular I'd have absolutely no problem with.

Finally defense and admittedly, this maybe makes the most sense if the circumstances are right. By that I mean a trade down, would be an option to consider, after which someone like Eddie Goldman, the big tackle out of Florida State could be a perfect fit as either a nose or end. He plays both the run and pass very well and would give us a much needed shot of youthful talent.

In a nutshell then, if we can't find a trade partner I'd take Stanley. However, if that's an option then I'd certainly explore it if the terms are right. There are no Watts in this draft anyway IMO.

Collins is more a strong safety...i dont know. Is he another Mark Barron? Id be worried about taking him top ten.

Collins has issues in coverage. Cooper is a Redskin type of pick since they're obsessed w/ WR's. They need to do what Jerry Jones is doing, take a big ass guard or tackle that can road grade and protect the QB. That's what use to win around here. I'd be looking hard at Peat.

Re: Your First round pick for the skins?

Great post Starry! I read that Collins is more of a strong safety as well but has the talent to transition to a FS role.

My hope is that we sign Iupati to take the LG position, moving Lauvao to RG. Moses showed promise to me, if he had another year to develop with a strong coach he could start. His injury worries me.

If Cooper is as good as they say he is I would consider drafting him then trade Garcon. But I like to take risk.

Seen that myself chief. Collins' speed and athleticism is there to see as the scouts have noted, and it’s what puts him in a position to make plays in coverage right now. I guess my concern with that then is that it’s fine in college, but will it translate to the pro’s where instincts are what separates the truly great safeties from the rest of the bunch? Don’t get me wrong I think he’ll be a heck of a player but again, top 5 is just a little high for me. if it’s a true ball-hawk you’re after then Gerod Holliman, who I mentioned on another thread previously has the off the chart instincts which Collins lacks, but as a tackler he’s non-existent. Reluctant in fact it seems when it comes to contact. Makes me wonder if I truly had to pick one player based on skillset, what would I be reassured is the easier to coach into a player through time and experience? Play recognition? Or technique(/guts!)?

I considered Iupati myself as it goes, but I still like the idea of using the draft to address the trenches early on, and FA for skill positions. My ideal draft would be to trade down in the 1st if possible and hopefully acquire an additional 2nd in the process. With both those picks then, if we could come away with Eddie Goldman and Malcolm Brown (Texas) to name two personal preferences, then that’s a pair of immediate contributors to go alongside the few talented guys we currently have on the defensive front. But going back to the offensive line then, I’d love for Long and Moses to work out and it’s still very early days. But as it stands, it’s an area of genuine weakness both in terms of starters and depth. It’s why I’d take TJ Clemmings with our existing 2nd, and hope that someone like Spencer Drango (Baylor) is available in the 4th, as like Clemmings, he can play inside or outside and whilst he’s more of the big bodied type, his agility is impressive for his frame. CBS has him pegged as a 2nd rounder admittedly, but he missed last season with a back injury which required surgery, so I would imagine teams will be mindful of that, especially given the position he plays.

As for Cooper, all things said I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he is indeed the pick tbh. I get the argument that receiver is a luxury right now given the holes in the rest of the team, but if he’s there at #5 and you’re going into the draft with a BPA mentality, then you’d be genuinely hard pressed to find someone better. He just does everything so well and I love watching the kid play. He’d also be an upgrade over Garcon, who appears to be talking himself out of DC.

Re: Your First round pick for the skins?

As of now we have the 5th pick...we would probably miss out on Lenoard Williams who is top prospect. With 5th I would take top OT available. If we do lose out we have the possibility of being as high as #2 pick but no lower than the #4 pick. I think the #3 pick would put us is a great spot for Williams or possibly a trade if someone wants one of the QB's if Williams is picked in one of top 2 spots.

I want Leonard Williams. We need studs to create inside pressure. Even the Addition of just Hatcher this year has made the world of a difference with Kerrigan, imagine adding a Gerald Mccoy type prospect to that mix.

Re: Your First round pick for the skins?

I want us to draft oline and oline and oline. Maybe trade down and get more oline. It's the more important part of the team. It'll help us run, pass. a safety is needed but that won't have the impact of oline oline and oline

Re: Your First round pick for the skins?

The redskins need big bodies. I've been harping on this the last two years. BPA at OL or front seven. Do this over and over until we are elite there. If we happen into the top two you could seriously consider a QB - which is the only position more important than big bodies. If our big players are better than other teams, we have a coach and a QB, we'll win a bunch of games. If not we probably won't. It's not rocket science it's football.
