a little less heat on the oc, a little more heat on the qb. kirk says they had a run play called but he decided to pass; about 0:50 in the video below.

Re: Skins-Cowboys Post Game Thread
They really need to just put a sign on FedEx during football season that says "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here"
I feel like the team simply doesn't have the coaching structure nor any kind of coaching IQ, a consistent QB or defensive push to be a competitive team. Watching the Skins is like watching a team playing to not lose rather than aiming to win. Just an all around disaster. Scotty has put some pieces in place and the Redskins are completely squandering it. i.e. Bruton is great in the box and complete dog shit in coverage. Why not use Cravens? Garcon hasn't done anything worthwhile in a bit, put Doc in and Etc. Seriously what do the Skins need to happen for then to be consistent? This whole, "we win the NFC East one year and then the next year we're playing like monkeys flinging poo at each other" thing needs to stop and it's been like this for as long as I can remember. When was the last time we made it into the playoffs 2 years in a row?

Re: Skins-Cowboys Post Game Thread
My concern is the same as last week--- very poor coaching and an almost complete inability of the coaches to adapt to the game this is going on in front of them.

Most plays, Prescott had already predetermined where he was going with the football. Why not occasionally sent some exotic blitzes at him, in hopes of a few rushed passes? I watched parts of the Bucs/Cardinals game on Sunday, and the Cards were fairly, relentless when it came to sending pressure at Winston. I recall last season the Cardinals blitzed more than any team in the league. If you look at the Cardinals defensive line, it's not made up of studs. Calais Campbell is the best player on their D-line, while the rest of their personnel are made up of what you'd consider journeymen. It's all about placing your team in the best possible position, and masking their weaknesses. Our defensive line is quite average, but they have their moments--here and there--where they're capable of making stops. But more times than not the opposition is marching down the field via long, clock-eating drives. I feel we now have the secondary to make plays, but there is just too much passiveness when it comes to Joe Barry and his schemes. Create some extravagant schemes to aide the defense. Granted, Cousins played a major role in Sunday's loss, it doesn't mean Barry gets off the hook, either. IMO, he's called two crappy defensive games in a row with extremely small to no adjustments. |

Re: Skins-Cowboys Post Game Thread
Cousins left 10 points or more out there on the field. And the late drive occurred after Cousins gave the Cowboys the momentum back. It's a game of confidence and momentum--so much of it is believing and executing with fire. Cousins f-ed up the offense and kicked the D in the balls. It's on Cousins. McVey called the plays that Kirk missed, in my book. Gruden and the coaches can't go in there and place it in a wide open DJax's hands or lead the rookie so he walks in. And then we have plenty of points and it aint on McVey or Gruden.
As for the D, they just do not have the front 7 at this point to win games for us. We are a season or two at best from being there. And that greatly limits what a D coordinator can do. The Cowboys have a lame, no-name d-line. Ours was worse. And do not forget that the cowboys have a good (great?) o-line. For us to win, it was going to be a shootout. And we should have won, if Kirk isn't garbage. Bottom line: we are in the midst of McC's rebuilding project. Kirk is showing he's not the guy. The D and O-line are still being put together. This is where we're at, folks. My view is stick with the coaches and even Kirk for now, see who's a gamer, and let Scott build. Sucks, but there it is. (PS The giants are not that good. We're going to beat them.)

Re: Skins-Cowboys Post Game Thread
We're doomed if Kirk can't get on track. He missed Crowder on what should have been an easy TD, and the pick in the endzone was just turrible.

Re: Skins-Cowboys Post Game Thread
What about Cousins overthrow to DJax for a sure TD?What about the piss poor under thrown pass to Josh Doctson that he had to wait for 1,000,000 years to float into his hands? That's another touchdown if Cousins hits him in stride......there are reports that players on offense are bellyaching over Kirk's poor play. Did you see Pierre Garcon's angry reaction when Cousins threw the interception into the end zone? The players complaining to the coaches are probably Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon because they are both in vital contract years. Cousins needs to get it together and fast!

If the play calling involved even a mild risk of running the ball, imagine how much more the passing game would open up.

Re: Skins-Cowboys Post Game Thread
Our next 5 games are Giants, Browns, Ravens, Eagles and Lions. All winnable games as none of these teams should scare us. If we can't get rolling in the next 5 weeks, we won't. And I think the key is Kirk mojo and defensive coaching/adjustments (and maybe running the ball more, although I am less focused on that given how open our receivers seemed yesterday).

Re: Skins-Cowboys Post Game Thread
So -- assume that Cousins starts the Giants game with a couple of picks and we get in a hole quickly. What does Gruden do? Starting 0-3 and 0-2 in the division would be pretty disasterous, and I wonder if Gruden would make a change.
To be clear, not advocating that. I still think that Kirk gives us the best chance to win, even though he's been shaky. But his body language has been just dreadful -- the guy looks defeated. Aaron Rodgers didn't have a good game the other night, and although you could see it really bothered him, he didn't have his head down or seem to withdraw. (I know, Cousins isn't to be confused with Rodgers -- but it's the mental toughness that is concerning; Gruden already shut him down once before for too many picks).
