This how I feel about it.
This is why modern societies have justice systems, with professionals knowing the laws, studying the case, the defendant defending his case, a jury hearing all that for several days of trial before making a decision.
The internet courtroom would sentence everybody to life in a minute without having access to any element of the case...

Except that he admittedly beat the four year old with a stick. What other element of the case do we need to know? Lol. That he said he didn’t know that wasn’t normal? Come on.
Why is everyone acting like it is odd that it is difficult to root for a child abuser?
Schneed would root for a Skins running back if the dude raped his own mother, not because he is a bigger fan than you or me, but because he has no soul and was never shown affection as a child.

My point is not that with enough elements I might approve or be less disgusted by what he did. I might not, what he did is un-excusable under any circumstances.

My points are:

1) I don't think it is up to me to decide if he paid enough or not for what he did

2) I don't think people should be reduced to one thing they did, because:
a) people can be multiple things, good and bad at the same time
b) people can change

3) I don't think people should be eternally and publicly bashed for something they did, especially once they paid for it, because it creates a vicious circle and I don't think it helps people becoming better versions of themselves, thus neither does it help a society becoming better.

4) I don't think not ever being allowed to do your job again should be part of any legal sentence, unless that job is a political one.

5) I have absolutely no idea if any of the Redskins players are good people or not, having met and discussed with none of them. I root for this team, thus for the football performances of its players, not for their souls.

Now, I'm not denying your right to not root for somebody for any reason of your choice.
I'm just expressing my discomfort with today's common habit of everybody voicing opinions about an act and the person committing that act, without knowing a lot about neither of the two.

Re: Redskins Signing Adrian Peterson

I think I am most disturbed by the fact some fans are very dismissive of what Adrian Peterson did, not that the Redskins signed him. What he did was abuse no matter what era or culture he came from. It shows some major mental issues if a grown man could do that to a helpless 4 year old child. To me it is one of those things you just can't take back. Unfortunately, as a Redskin fan I will have to root for him while he is on the field. I would prefer the competition at his position improve enough to keep him on the bench.

I agree with an awful lot of what you are saying here. However, and it is a big however, we do know for a fact that he beat a four year old all over his body and on his nut sack with a stick so bad that he needed hospitalization. That is not opinion. That is not conjecture. That is a fact. So as for your very last paragraph, well that is simply not the case. There is just nothing else that you could tell me about AP or the incident that would make that less evil of an act. I do not need to know more about the man to better form my opinion of how i feel about what he did.

You don't tell me who I can and can't root for, so you shut the fuck up.

Exactly, and this guy beat welts on a 4 year old, I don't need to hear his side of the story. I don't care how he was raised, I was raised by a wife beating child abuser and I have done neither. I have been punched in the face 3 times by women & hit with a frying pan over my lifetime and just turned and walked away.

Ok put your money up then, turn off the Redskins this season. Either take action, or accept that your faux outrage is empty.

Which act is that? Because I'm not wearing my troll hat at the moment, I'm wearing my basic common sense hat. If you won't turn off the games then you don't really care that much. It's a basic economic decision - you're saying I don't like that they signed a child abuser but I still want to watch the games, ergo you care more about enjoying your Sunday than you do about taking a stand on child abuse.

It's OK, I feel the exact same way. I'm just willing to tell you that's how it is for me. I guess it takes others a while longer to come around to what they see in the mirror.

Re: Redskins Signing Adrian Peterson

Did he already pay his debt legally and to the NFL? Yes.

Has he been accused of anything remotely close to this since then? No.

Ok, lets play some fucking football.

SO YES HE HAS BEEN ACCUSED since then . . . he has just gotten smarter and how he does it . . . no marks, no evidence!!

I'd have to look into it further. I don't remember hearing anything about it or remember it being discussed in news/around the NFL.

AD had his issues dating back to College, Multiple baby momma's , kids child support issues , etc.. He seems mature now, and TBH I could care less what any player does off the field, they don't pay my bills. I'm a fan of the team not 1 or 2 players. Just like Kirk leaving, yeah it sucked for a couple days then its on to Alex.

Re: Redskins Signing Adrian Peterson

For me it's another case of separating the player from the person. I didn't like Junior Galette either after that video I saw, but still wanted him to have success.

Not knowing AP personally, whose to say he hasn't changed his ways since those events? We don't know how he was raised either, plenty of people from different walks of life grow up desensitized to certain acts or continue the cycle from being abused as a child to being an abuser as an adult.

All I know is I root for the uniform. In any form of entertainment, you learn to separate the person from the talent. Should I feel guilty for enjoying The Patriot because Mel Gibson is an anti-Semitic POS?

With all that being said, my opinion only speaks for myself. I know from what he did it is unforgiveable for a lot of people, and I have no problem with that. We're all entitled to our own opinion.
