Generally true, BUT we have an extremely young team, and we are in a good position regarding the cap. In addition, I think TW's main concern is the guaranteed money, not necessarily being the top paid OT, I think you can take the 10 Million he was due in 2019 tack it to a 2020 and 2021 guaranteed contract and get him back on board and bring a team voice back in a positive way. If you can't make the money work, ie he wants top 5 OT numbers and excessive years guaranteed, then you trade him. But remember, he called out BA as racist, he is one failed test away from a year suspension, he was out for a year(that may help or hurt his value), so I don't think it's a slam dunk a team is going to trade like they would have during training camp (thanks so much BA)

All of the reasons you say a team might not want to trade for TW are reasons we shouldn't want to give him any guaranteed money.

We already made him the highest paid OT in the league and front-loaded the contract. If Trent didn't want to play under a contract without guaranteed money in the final years, then he shouldn't have signed it in the first place. Giving an old, injury-prone, drama-generating, locker room distracting player one failed drug test away from a year long suspension a new deal would be ridiculously stupid. If the team did this, I would lose all faith in Rivera.

EDIT: Updated reference to "BA" to "TW." Bruce is still on the brain evidently lol.

Given that pot use is likely to be part of the next CBA and that he has stayed away from it for the last 6-7 years since his suspension, I dont think other teams would be bothered by that. If they are they can put it in aa a stipulation in any new contract. 31 is not that old now for a good tackle who takes care of himself..... I think the biggest issue is his injury history and the prospect of guaranteeing salary, even if only for injury.

You know front loaded contracts are standard operating procedure and TW wasn't going to fight for a fully guaranteed contract at the time he signed that, there wasn't the push for it that there is now. And it is a different thing for a team that is trading draft picks to look at the risks associated with bringing a new face into a locker room, than for the Redskins to bring back a team captain who was the face of a rebellion against an unwanted team president and medical staff. If they bring back TW, I doubt he would be anything but the positive team captain he was leading up to the BS with BA.

Hard to lose faith in Rivera over bringing an elite player back into the fold with smiles all around. (depending on the deal it took to get those smiles)

Either way that it goes...this should be the absolutely first thing we need to figure out. Like immediately.

When cant afford to sit around and lollygag with the LT position...its too fucking important

Unless the Redskins get an offer they can't refuse for the #2 pick, I think we have to make things work with Trent to fill the LT spot.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

Bruce should have renewed or traded Trent (like any competent team would) and this wouldnt be what it is today.

Bruce just doesnt communicate with players and agents. Desean and Pierre both said at the end of their last season here that their agent has not gotten 1 phone call form Bruce. We learned during the Kirk Cousins saga that Bruce did not hold discussion for seasons except saying generic stuff like "we are 100% committed to signing Kirk Cousins" ... but then not talk with his agents.

Once Trent realized he wasnt going to get resigned or traded ... he admits he blew up.

Bruce sucks. Trent needs to go.

Put me in the bring Trent back camp. Lots of blame to go around last season and TW had his share. BUT. He's a guy who was seen as a team leader and brings a real nastiness to the line.

Personally, I am looking forward to TW and Flowers just blowing people up on the left side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-eZ...ature=youtu.be

I think you bring back TW and Flowers, then Scherff will sign a contract. I believe Scherff is looking to see how our new staff is going to be run. The TW situation left a bad taste in the whole locker room.

Trent, Flowers, Roullier, Scherff, and Conklin (from the Titans) would be pretty brutal. Resign Penn for depth.

Yes, it would be incredibly brutal... to our salary cap. We already have the most expensive offensive line in the NFL by a mile.

Well right now according to Spotrac our OLine is 25th in cap hit at 26million. Dallas is #1 at 59million. So we have a ways to go to be the most expensive line.

I heard an interview with CT this morning driving in...he said from what he heard and what AP said the situation has totally changed with both guys gone who Trent had problems with.

More likely than not...expect a reunion

Noooooo. How dare we try to reconcile with a team leader who's very popular in the locker room while also being in the top ten at his position?
