Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins

Like the year is 2071, 2 fans chatting: "-Wait, why are they called WFT again? -Well, it was supposed to be the temporary name, they were looking for a new name for 2 years... -But why did they stick with it then? -Well, they went 7 and 9 and won the division in 2020, and then went to a conference game in 2021 and figured it was good enough in the end..."

Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins
They are saying the new name will not have any connection to native Americans… that strikes me odd .. so now it seems any connection to NA is considered bad? I do know that Indians, braves, chiefs all have had some criticism for team name .. dang I just never realized that using Native American theme was somehow wrong … I’m ready to move on to the next stage … my bet is it’s a patriotic or military based name and that will bring in a whole new level of criticism.. we shall see .. red wolves is starting to sound good …,

Well warriors was my 2 choice of those under consideration (for the very reason they eliminated it).

Just glad it isn't Redwolves or Redhogs. Put that shit to bed.

Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins
Interesting on the Sports Junkies this morning that they were talking about the possibility of the team being called Capital City instead of Washington. That could be one way of tightening up the trademark application and be Capital City Football Club CCFC instead of WFT or WFC.

Losing Washington might suck more than Redskins.

Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins
It would be strange not calling them Washington.
Personally I'd love to see them make a radical change and a total break from the past. I don't want them being called Washington (insert animal or military rank). Its just the same old same old. I wouldn't mind a color change but I get that with all the player movement the only thing fans have left is the name and the colors and with the name change the colors have to stay. IMO CCFC gives them the best chance to keep the colors. |

Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins
Wouldn't surprise me if they are holding off on announcing the new name to coordinate with a new stadium announcement too. And if the plan works out to build a new stadium in DC than the Washington name could definitely be out.

Re: Come up with a new name for the Redskins
Just curious what's the tipping point to just say F it and move on to a new team? I think that's the delicate balance here. Too radical of a change and you leave the franchise totally unrecognizable especially for the out of market fan base.

Personally I don't think there is much of an out of town fanbase anymore (honestly there isn't much of an in-town fanbase anymore either) and those fans that do exist are older. All this talk of calling them the Hogs is meaningless to a 20 something, they weren't born during the glory days and likely don't care. I suspect their feelings are that if the fans that are left have stuck with them through the garbage of the last 30 years then they will stick through this change. |

What's more telling to me is how much the fan base has shrunk in the DMV. I live in the MD suburbs and nobody around me is a WFT fan. When I first moved here it was everyone but now they have changed to Balt. Between the losing, Snyder, and all the BS surrounding this organization people either dont care about WFT or downright hate them. If I owned this organization that would give me pause. |
