Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

Right now I think Watson is going to be too expensive, but if you don't ask you don't get. Right now I talk to the Texans about next 2 1st round picks, and an assortment of lower picks. If we give up 5 or 6 picks spread out over the next 2-3 years, I'd live with that because you get a top tier QB in his prime and you have a very friendly contract to 2025. And still have enough picks to fill the gaps if used wisely.

If they won't even talk, then turn to Detroit and offer a 1st and a 3rd for Stafford. I wouldn't go higher because of age, injury risk and contract.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

Just for kicks though I'd offer our first rounder this year and our first in 2022 and 2023 , probably toss in a 2nd this year and a 3rd next. That still probably doesn't get it done. I'd throw in anyone from the D-line not named Chase Young in lieu of a future first.

But seriously folks,
I would give this years 1st, one of our 3rds and a 5th plus
a conditional 2nd, 5th next year that goes to a 1st, 4th if Watson starts 13 games.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

I have lived in Houston before Watson was drafted, I have had a chance to see Watson play more than most on this site.
I have seen him play in person at NRG stadium and on TV. I have met him and he is a very nice guy, a good guy and a great teamate. Not a headcase
Watson is a very talented QB, but he is not an instant plug and play superstar. He has some work to do in his game. He is not a Mahomes or Aaron Roger that is ready to be tops in the NFL. Watson holds on to the ball to long. He improvises too much and needs to be more disciplined. To be fair, with some good coaching and work to break him of his bad habits, he is not far from being great. But IMO he is not there yet.
I would not sell the farm to get a Qb that has holes in his game.

Exactly. And honestly, screw Watson. He should have thought about these things before signing a 4-year $156 million dollar contract. His contract isn't even 5 months old. Screw him. Screw OBJ. Screw all the players like them that take boatloads of cash from teams, which represents a long-term investment in them, and then show no loyalty in return. If Watson had reservations he shouldn't have signed the new contract. Now he has it, and the team is on the hook for huge guarantees and hoses cap without him, he wants out? Tough. He was happy to take that $27M signing bonus though. Sure he's going to refund that, right? Nope. Screw him. Even if Houston wants to, trading him hoses their cap massively. I'll believe Watson is some great guy when he talks about giving Houston their $27M signing bonus back. Guy like that won't be loyal to us either. Bottom line: if you have reservations about long term future with team, don't sign a fat new deal with them. Screw these turds that take the boatloads of money and then hose the team that gave it to them.

I agree with your basic assessment that he isn't a honed pocket passer. He is another running QB who uses athleticism as substitute for learning to read Ds and become a superb passer. Eventually, he's going to take bad hits and get hurt, like all running QBs do, going back to at least Steve Young. You want a primary pocket passer who avoids most big hits, runs only as an absolute last resort, and has longevity. With what QBs cost, and with how rare a commodity a franchise QB is, you don't want your QB doubling as a running back, period.

There are QBs just as good as any of the guys homers are talking about trading for, in the draft this year, you just have to commit to finding one.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

Sorry, just a general nitpick here. But some of you guys do realize that the Sunday Ticket and RedZone channel have been around for years now right? Living in a certain area doesn't really carry the weight that it used to for being an expert on the home team LOL. Sorry, rant over on that. No disrespect intended.

What makes Watson so enticing is that he's a top talent who's only getting better, and he's only 25. Guys like that just don't become available very often. That's why the price is going to be high. Personally I think the way he's forcing his way out is a bit of a red flag that shouldn't be brushed aside.

I look at it as karma for the long-suffering WFT - Skins fan. We watched as KC and TW both bullied their way out, so if we get a top guy that way, hey - we've paid our dues.

Unlike TW and KC, Watson has legit grievances against his team. Houston is super dysfunctional, and we of all fan bases should know dysfunction when we see it. I don't blame him for wanting out of Houston.

If he's smart he would steer clear of Washington then. Yes with Ron we're not the hot mess we were before he got here, but that can change very quickly.

I can’t imagine it’s much better at NYJ over Houston and here.

Miami might be his best bet plus he save on taxes and it’s nice and warm and you get a cute little mammal on your helmet.

LOL, I'm laughing at your intro. Yeah, this isn't like it's the 70's, 80's, or early 90's. The advent and growth of the internet, social media, sports being shoved down our throats 24 hours a day/7 days a week, and, of course, NFL Sunday Ticket and Red Zone has eliminated being from a specific area carrying weight to people from that specific area or region being more knowledgeable of a particular team. It's only relevant if a person doesn't focus on any teams other than their own or something similar.

I told a friend a few days ago that I'm now leery of Watson due to his "tail wagging the dog" scenario. I'm not sure I wanna go that route. I also don't wanna give up the farm to get him.

I somewhat agree with 'Defensewins,' re: Watson has a tendency to hold onto the ball too long. He's a heckuva talent, but the propensity to hold onto the ball increases his chances for unnecessary sacks and hits. It's slightly nitpicking as his pros certainly outweighs his cons, but it's still something to keep an eye on.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

Chase young is going to be a reason we land some free agents ... also Ron is a huge plus .. think many would want to come here with past situations.. I’m on fence about Watson .. he great but talk of 2-3 first round and a top player ... man that’s a lot ! Stafford for this years number one makes more sense to me ...
