Looking at where a team like the Panthers stand at right now makes me thankful the team made this move.

They're basically rolling with Darnold and probably, and will need to pay up for a QB in the draft.

Pretty good read: https://www.nbcsports.com/washington...-commanders-qb

Really like this breakdown. Big picture is the improvement down field.

Defenses will have to honor the deep passing accuracy. No more more creeping safeties up or letting corners just sit on routes cause they know Hieneke can’t beat them deep

No question Wentz is going to stretch the field.

He was in the top 10 of QBs this season 20 plus yards in the air.

Heineke's arm looks much worse in person than on TV.. The TD Pass to Terry vs GB, It was a miracle he came down with that LOL. I Like the dude but def the weakest arm in the league

Re: Welcome Carson Wentz

We won 7 games last year with a tough schedule and TH under center … what throws does Taylor make that Carson can’t ?
So if Wentz comes in adds the threat to go deep and does no more than Taylor in the short pass game that should get us more wins IF the rest of team Defense shows up .. Wentz is a upgrade for sure !!

This team could very easily win 7 games w/ Wentz.

It's all on him, if he can play like he did last year then I'll say we will be in the NFCE Mix.

If TH had 27 tds and 7ints we would have been in the playoffs.

Wentz does not have to play lights out for us to win 10 games .. just take what’s there and cut down on the turnovers .. the deep threat should open up the underneath game …

I'd clarify that; cut down on the fumbles. In only 2 years in 6 his INT's exceeded 7 (weirdly 7 in all 4 years), and one of those was his rookie season (though yeah, his worst years were the only 2 full seasons...). Fumbles though, he's had almost half as many of those as TD's! He's only lost 28 of 66, but that's still averaging 11 fumbles a season (4.66 lost per). Needs to improve.

Statistically he comes in between Goff and Prescott, from the same draft. If he can get closer to Prescott in performance and kill the fumbles, I agree we could be challenging for the East quite easily.

Re: Welcome Carson Wentz

Cowherd then asked if you didn’t know the quarterback’s name and I told you what he did last year, “27 touchdowns, 7 interceptions 95 passer rating, 210 passing yards a game, winning record, 6-5, 240, can move and has an arm. I would take that.”

“Is he reckless? Absolutely. No one questions this. He is too reckless, but I would take him.”

“Carson Wentz lost to the Jags, and Jim Irsay (Colts owner) freaked out.” This is a big win for Washington! A major upgrade over Taylor Heinicke, a major upgrade over Ryan Fitzpatrick.”

Re: Welcome Carson Wentz

So many people want to make everything black or white. A guy either sucks or is great.

Reality is Wentz is in the 'fine', 'OK', or 'decent' range.

And the point is, 'fine' is a massive upgrade over what we've had at QB. That's how you end up showing up so well on the 'offseason improvement index' thing from PFF.

He will make plus plays that top QBs can make. He'll also make boneheaded ones that the top QBs will avoid more often. It adds up to a lot of improvement for us. We should be in the playoff conversation with Wentz just like the Colts were last year. In a weaker NFC and with a soft schedule like we have, 10 wins is certainly in the conversation.

There's nothing wrong with using 'fine' as a stepping stone to great. I'll take what we can get now, hopefully competent QB play is enough to build momentum for the rebuild. As everyone here has already noted, nothing about the Wentz contract prevents us from trying to find a great one in future seasons.

Agree with this, I'd even say 11-12 wins is possible if the defense steps their shit up this year...

I think the defense will be better this year. The secondary played much better toward ending of the season, and that was without Young and Sweat. The biggest question mark for me is did Young and Sweat realize how important it is for them to stick to their assignments after watching backups playing better than they did.
