Mathis probably gets 30-40% of the snaps at DT this year. I don't really view him as a backup in the traditional sense. He probably won't be starting right away, but they are all rotational guys.

Looks like Payne will be playing out his final year here. Not necessarily a bad thing. Not always going to keep every player on a 2nd a contract. Hopefully he can have his best year yet so he can earn a fat contact and help us win more games.

At least when Carson goes down in week 3 with a busted knee because of field is made of pudding, we can watch Howell sail balls and miss wide open guys while looking totally lost.
