With so many coaching changes and front office changes in the NFL there should be some young coaches or just new coaches looking to clean house and build there teams in free agency. I would think there would be quite a bit of interest in Lavar and Ramsey if that is what our team decides they want to give up. I wish Lavar would take a pay cut and stay, but I agree with some others that is not going to happen especially with the Poston's as his agents who put the blame on the skins for their errors. They will either not agree to negotiate at all or make it nearly impossible even if talks open. Maybe Lavar pulls a Javon Walker and says adios to the Poston's like Walker did Rosenhaus.

I think Lavar's agent shops him around and finds that no one is willing to pay for him at this point in his career. A friend of mine said Pittsburgh would love to have him if the price is right since he is from Pittsburgh.

lavar wont take a massive pay cut to stay, so he's gone either this year or possibly next... he says he wants to be here, but obviously not enough to give back money.

In two years he's made a ton of money and done squat. he's still not healed and doesn't have his speed back yet (assuming he can even get back to full speed). Gibbs passed on R moss within 6 hours of the vikings seeking trades, so there's no way we even try that. I'd trade him straight up for another LB (MLB or OLB since marshall plays both) or WR or draft picks at this point.

If he can heal fully i'd love to keep him cause he can still play, but even at 90% health he's overpaid, so if he can't recover he NEEDS to go. The vast amount of money in his contract probably sends him packing either way though.

I think LA will stay. The cap hit will be too high if we let him go this year. Would have to be a blockbuster trade, maybe Ramsey and LA to the Raiders for Moss and draft pick. Or maybe package the two and send them to the Cards for Boldin and draft pick.

Maybe this would work in Madden. Trades like this don't happen in the NFL unless all players involved have contract beefs. The Raiders won't trade Randy Moss because it would bury their salary cap, and there's no way any team parts with a good guy and great young WR like Anquan Boldin.

I think Lavar re-structures and hangs around. This org is going to really work on keeping together what they have and add a few components (WR, DE, SS). We are VERY close to the promise land, VERY CLOSE!

But you guys are right about the money thing, even though I don't think very much of him as a player, it might not make sense to get rid of him.

We'll probably only get rid of him if we're desperate for cap room in order to sign our draft choices in July.

As you can tell I'd like to keep him around another year, but unless he takes a pay cut gonna be virtually impossible.

He won't take a paycut and he's definitely not getting a raise anytime soon, so looks like Arrington might be out of Washington.

LA wont restructure and the team takes a huge cap hit if he stays or goes (and this team could care less about cap hits). LA's gone to whoever will pay him (I dont blame him). He was good here but he could have been so much better.

Look--if it's 7 mil to keep him and 12 mil to cut him, then the math is clear--he's back. I agree with D'boyz that a trade is unlikely. And I agree with the sentiment that Gibbs wants to keep the squad intact--Lavar, for all his foibles, is a leader with the players, IMO. (Plus, I like Lavar, even if he is underacheiving--though see that recently linked Doc Walker column where Doc argued that Lavar is still recovering from injury, and next year he'll look much better.)

I posted this in the Salary Cap thread, but it's relevant here too: Here's the story on Lavar:

He's going to count $12 million against the cap if he stays on the team next year and his contract is not modified.

How a player leaves your team, whether by getting cut or by getting traded, it does not change the cap situation. The date on which he leaves the team does change things.

If he is cut or traded before June 1, we will carry $12.8 million in Dead Money in 2006. Meaning his cap hit for 2006 would go up $0.8 million from it's current position. And he wouldn't even be on the team. So there's no way this would happen.

If he is cut or traded after June 1, we will carry about $5 million in Dead Money in 2006, saving us about $7 million from his current cap number of $12 million. The negative side of that is we'd carry $7 million in dead money in 2007.

It's very possible Lavar could stay and change his $6.5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus. This would save us about $5 million or so in 2006. But it will be interesting to see if GW wants him around, or if he elects to trade him and get something in return.
