This is a strength on our team. But it would become a weakness (depth) if we let one of them get away.
Just an FYI the other back was Joe Washington....

Seriously, I couldn't agree more. It's just stupid to think we would get rid of Portis....

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

I'm still trying to figure out how/where the trade Portis rumor got started. I haven't heard anyone in the Redskins organization mention anything about trading him. They may try to intice him to rework his contract for cap reasons, but trading him is unlikely.

They're going to need his effort, because gone are the days when teams can rely soley on one back to carry the load through a sixteen game season.

E James
L Tomlinson
L Johnson
F Gore
W Parker

These guys all carried the load and I probably forgot a couple. It doesn't happen as much but it can be done.

I know that Portis has plenty left in the tank. The ridiculous rumors were started by people who can't see the big picture. The same people that annoited the Giants then Cowboys then Chargers and now the Patriots.

The same type that says Taylor is the greatest player to ever suit up after the Carolina game and then say that he is "mediocre" because he had to pick up the slack for an injured defense that lacked talent on every level.

I agree with the thoughts here, but E James had a terrible time in AZ :/. I'd add S jackson T barber and B Westbrook to the list though.

I can tell you. The media sees Portis go down, Betts steps in and has a great season. The Skins are a team that's known as being a mover and a shaker, so they put two and two together and there's the stupid Portis is being traded rumor.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

Can someone explain to me how one determines that Danny Boy Snyder is 100X better than Jeffrie Lurie? Frankly, neither of them is any kind of role model that I'd want for either of my kids. But tell me why Snyder is so much superior.

It can't be on the basis of "on-field results". Snyder took over a team that was a playoff team and basically led it into "high draft pick terrirtory". Lurie had a team in 1998/99 that had the worst record in the league. The only reason they got to take Donovan McNabb with the #2 overall pick is that Cleveland came into the league and was granted the #1 overall pick - which they used to take Tim "Ouch" Couch. From that time until now, the Eagles have 5 NFC East titles and the Redskins have - - how many would that be?

Lurie is no genius, but why is Snyder so much better?

Anyone who thinks that Snyder has been better for the Skins than Lurie has been for Philly is an idiot. The Eagles have had a plan from Day 1 when Lurie brought in Reid. They build through the draft, leave enough cap space to re-sign their core guys in-season, thus making even those long-term deals extremely cap friendly. In short, they are a very stable organization, with far less turnover than the Skins. I remember Gibbs calling both Smoot and Pierce two of his core guys during the '04 season, and how did that end up? The Philly philosophy would have left ample cap space to sign both at a discount before allowing them to sniff free agency. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dockery get a sizable offer and depart once the FA market opens.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

Clinton Portis is the best football player we have. He was injured the entire time he played last season. He will be back up over 1500 this season.

And, I would point out that Jeffrey Lurie has exactly the same number of Super Bowl wins as Snyder. Almost doesn't count. People will remember their teams scornfully as they do the Vikings of 70s or the Bills of the 90s.

Shoot trade everyone that we can, were not winning with any of these overpaid bums. I would rather lose with young inexpensive talent than over priced over the hill bums. Always being over the cap and having our butts kicked year and year out. We have stunk for the 12 of the last 14 yrs im sick of it.

Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed today? You're just rolling in the negativity today, more so than usual.

Its hard not to agree with this because what the redskins have been doing since Dan Snyder took over is not working. The player signings are bad and the draft is almost non-existant. I'd love to see the Redskins completely revamp the way they do business into more of the Steelers, Pats mold.

You'd rather lose with young inexpensive talent? Why? What do you care how much the Redskins spend? As long as they're within the NFL guidlines I really don't care how much they spend. I do however care about the team's performance. If mistakes were made in player or coach evalulations then they need to be addressed. I for one would be extremely disappointed if the Skins traded Portis and kept Ladell "I can't hold on to the ball when it counts" Betts.
